Job Summary:
Coordinates collection, analysis, processing & reporting of data & assists Principal Investigator (PI) in judging the validity of test data obtained in regard to biomedical &/or social-behavioral research study(ies) of limited complexity involving co-investigators, multiple campuses &/or universities.
Completes all activities by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) & all relevant current local, state, & federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy & procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), & the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH).
The Mesulam Center for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease is a multi-departmental component of the Feinberg School of Medicine. We specialize in the clinical care and scientific study of neurological diseases that interfere with cognition and behavior. Areas of emphasis include age-related memory impairments and dementias. Our three interacting missions are to investigate the causes and clinical characteristics of neurodegenerative diseases, to ensure that our patients are the beneficiaries of the latest advances, and to explore the neural foundations of behavior and cognition in health and disease.
This position is for a research study assistant for the longitudinal research study on Primary Progressive Aphasia in the laboratory of Dr. Marsel Mesulam and Dr. Elena Barbieri. Primary responsibilities include scheduling research participants, administering neuropsychological tests, coordinating with interdisciplinary teams within the Center, transcribing speech samples, data entry/maintenance of a REDCap database, neuroimaging data processing and data analysis, and working on study-related research project. This position has funding for a period of two years.
Please note: Supervisor provides objectives, detailed deadlines and general instructions. Work is reviewed for technical accuracy and compliance with instructions, practice, policy and procedures. EE meets frequently with supervisor to obtain instructions regarding general phases of work and in some cases as to specific details.
Specific Responsibilities:
Technical
Reviews & obtains informed consent.
Schedules study visits with participants.
Conducts interviews.
Escorts participants to study activities.
Scores test results.
Collects survey data.
Runs pipelines for the pre-processing and analysis of neuroimaging data including structural and functional MRI, and PET.
Performs statistical analysis under supervision.
Helps summarize and visualize data using appropriate graphs and tables.
Facilitates communication with key personnel & participants to maintain project study flow.
Administration
Maintains detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting & entering data; &/or preparing basic charts & graphs.
Performs scientific literature searches in support of research.
Supervision
May train students and or volunteers on study procedures
Miscellaneous
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or related field.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
Interest in neuroscience or communication sciences
Prior experience with REDCap or similar database
Intermediate understanding of Excel
Prior experience in human subjects research
Prior experience working with adults with cognitive impairments
Prior experience administering neuropsychological and/or cognitive tests and experiments
