Description
The Decatur Nurse Administrator is responsible for supervising the Department of Internal Medicine Decatur Multispecilaty Clinc staff for the daily operations of the clinical services for the Department of Internal Medicine. The Nurse Administrator will complete all clinical duties as needed, assist physicians (including faculty, fellows, residents and medical students) in patient care activities requiring specialized nursing skills and act as the lead nurse in the Decatur Internal Medicine Multi-specialty clinic.

Administrative Duties 40%
A. Serves with assisting Departmental HealthCare Administrators, Medical Office Coordinator, and Medical Insurance Assistant Manager with administrative and production supervision for the Department of Internal Medicine.
B. Maintains overall responsibility for the hiring, training, education, discipline and evaluating of the clinical staff at the Decatur Multispecialty clinic. Supports the Medical Office Coordinator, with hiring, training, education, discipline, and evaluating clinic support staff. Responsible for annual competency completion, planning quarterly emergency preparedness, and Department orientation manual.
C. Attends Grit and Grace meetings weekly and collaborates with the Springfield IM Nurse Administrator.
D. Arrange monthly leadership touch base for each division with Charge Nurse, Healthcare Administrator, and Nurse Administrator.
E. Attends monthly Division meetings.
F. Oversight of nursing and clinic support staff assignments in the Decatur Multispecialty clinic to ensure they are appropriate and maximize optimum efficiency in clinics.
G. Evaluates clinic functions on a regular basis and PRN utilizing patient satisfaction reports.
H. Attends the monthly SMAC meeting. Educates and distributes new information to the staff at the Decatur IM Multispecialty clinic as needed.
I. In collaboration with the Springfield IM Nurse Administrator, Develops, revises, and implements nursing and clinic procedures and policies. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditations.
J. Acts as a liaison between Healthcare administrators and nursing and clinic support staff.
K. Ensures a professional environment is maintained by nursing and clinic support staff.
L. Ensures that all areas of clinic and equipment used are clean, organized, and safely stored according to policy and procedure. Monthly PQSE audit for each division. Report for each division sent to Healthcare Administrators.
M. Works with Division Charge Nurses in developing and revising patient education brochures to meet needs, regulations, and updating information PRN and annually.
N. Advises Medical Office Coordinator on appropriateness of patient appointments, clinic schedule efficiency, template management, and strategies to increase clinic utilization.
O. Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned by the Healthcare Administrators for Department of Internal Medicine.
P. Organizes clinic patient flow and revises as necessary to maximize physician productivity and minimize patient wait times. Communicates with Divisional Charge Nurses, Medical Office Coordinator, and Medical Insurance Assistant Manager as needed.
Q. Presence at the Decatur Multispecialty clinic unless at designated meetings off site.
R. Sensor management and follow up. Attends PSES meeting monthly.
II. Indirect Nursing Duties 40%
A. Provides backup in clinical operations in absence of the Licensed Nurse.
B. Serves as a resource for clinical operations. Understands the work of both nursing and clinical support staff.
C. Maintains Basic Life Support certification required to perform nursing duties
D. Monitors the quality of work and services performed by clinical staff. Ensures that functions are performed according to policies and procedures
E. Coordinates orientation and training for new personnel
F. Contributes to the development, maintenance, and updating of nursing policies, procedures and standards of care
G. Performs employee evaluations, approves sick/vacation time, assesses need for compensatory time, and participates in the disciplinary process as required
H. Provides oversight, correction, and mitigation of problems that arise in clinic, i.e. misunderstanding between staff members, physicians, and/or patients
I. Conducts regular clinical staff meetings to communicate divisional, departmental, and organizational, changes, projects, and updates
J. Performs other indirect patient duties as assigned
III. Direct Nursing Duties 20%
A. Provides nursing support to physician/nurse practitioner/physician assistant(s).
B. Demonstrates clinical competence in carrying out patient care duties specific to assigned area.
