The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement (OVCIA) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign seeks a full-time Executive Director of Organizational Consistency. The Executive Director will be a curious, humble, and collegial leader, adept at balancing the expectations of multiple stakeholders and effectively communicating the value proposition of different workplace initiatives. The ideal candidate must showcase a unique blend of visionary thinking, emotional intelligence, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to inspire trust and confidence across all levels of the organization.

Organizational Relationships and Job Summary

As a member of the OVCIA's newly reconstituted People & Culture team (formerly known as Talent Management) and reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement Operations and Chief of Staff, the Executive Director of Organizational Consistency centers the workplace expectations of the University, the OVCIA, and the University of Illinois Foundation (UIF), and is responsible for ensuring that advancement operations and initiatives are (1) aligned with all relevant laws and policies, (2) consistent across University units, and (3) inclusive in their implementation.

A strategic leader, this position will work closely with OVCIA and advancement leadership, the Office of the Provost, Illinois Human Resources (IHR), the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (OVDEI), the OVCIA People & Culture team, and other advancement colleagues to create a work environment that embodies our advancement values: Exemplify Integrity; Practice Empathy; Embrace Collaboration; Inspire Innovation, and Enable Impact.

Duties & Responsibilities

University, OVCIA, and Unit Advancement Alignment

• Lead initiatives aligning and leveraging relevant university system resources, support services, and infrastructure to best effectuate the advancement strategic priorities of the OVCIA, the university, and all units.
• Oversee OVCIA People & Culture internal communications initiatives to ensure that advancement policies, procedures, processes, strategies, goals, priorities, and initiatives are documented, shared, understood, and consistently applied across the university.
• Develop and implement protocols for the secure and accurate capture, management, retrieval, and use of Illinois Advancement employee records.

Advancement Workplace Culture

• Lead the integration of Illinois Advancement's values and culture with daily practices and decision-making.
• In partnership and coordination with the OVCDEI, champion DEI initiatives aimed at fostering an open and inclusive workplace.
• Regularly assess organizational culture, working with colleagues to run surveys and focus groups to ensure values are being lived, not just stated, and creating and implementing responsive actions as needed.

OVCIA Lead for Budget and Human Resources

• Serve as OVCIA budget officer, responsible for fiscal management and administration of OVCIA and unit funds, and as point-of-contact with the Office of the Provost, UIF, and University of Illinois Alumni Association (UIAA) on all budgetary matters. Provide leadership and advice in the development and implementation of financial policies and long-range financial planning.
• Lead the development of the OVCIA's annual budget for both the university and the University of Illinois Foundation (UIF). Use relevant university and UIF system software, platforms, and processes to initiate and complete budget development for both the university and UIF. Create budget reports, cost of fundraising reports, and other budget documents as needed.
• Working closely with IHR, oversee the implementation and compliance of all relevant laws, regulations, and University policies related to advancement operations and initiatives, including serving as the point person for OVCIA employee relations matters.

Within 3 months, you will:
  • Establish relationships with key stakeholders from the Provost's Office, IHR, OVCDEI, OVCIA, UIF, advancement leadership, and advancement colleagues across the organization.
  • Familiarize yourself with existing University and OVCIA budget, human resources, and DEI policies, frameworks, and initiatives.
  • Understand Illinois' fundraising structure, fundamentals, values, and culture.
  • Begin serving as the OVCIA's point person for both budget and employee relations matters and attend the University's monthly HR Caucus and Budget Council meetings.
  • Attend trainings, professional development, and networking activities for newcomers within Advancement.
Within 6 months, you will:
  • Begin to review and catalog OVCIA and advancement budget and HR policies.
  • Understand the various roles and functions of advancement across the University and begin familiarizing yourself with existing expectations of each.
  • In partnership with OVCDEI, identify opportunities for improvement in workplace inclusivity and culture.
  • Work with OVCIA and IHR colleagues to determine the categories of employee information to collect in support of People & Culture initiatives.
By the end of the first year, you will:
  • Propose changes or additions to OVCIA and advancement policies.
  • In collaboration with People & Culture colleagues, start implementing workplace culture development initiatives.
  • Begin strategizing for the next year, taking into account lessons learned, feedback received, and future organizational goals.
  • Cooperatively set annual goals with your supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree.
• More than ten years of professional experience in operations, budget, resource management, human resources, or closely related fields.
• Professional experience with, or demonstrated understanding of, higher education and advancement roles and operations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional experience working in higher education advancement, and in particular, within the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
• An understanding of budget, HR, and other policies and procedures for the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

• Exceptional interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to engage in meaningful and collaborative partnerships with advancement colleagues, academic leaders, faculty, staff, donors, and volunteers to produce outcomes.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and the ability to manage tight deadlines and multiple projects.
• Demonstrated excellent and persuasive speaking, writing, and listening abilities.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after closing dates. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The salary range for this position is $140,000 to $150,000.
