Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Electrical Engineer is responsible for supporting ethylene oxide (EO) engineering operations in the Americas. The Electrical Engineer can work independently and collaboratively, assist with a variety of tasks including assessing new equipment, troubleshooting existing equipment and systems, designing electrical, low voltage (480VAC) power distribution, and control systems, overseeing equipment improvements/upgrades and managing projects by developing the scope, schedule, and budget associated as well as effectively execute and complete projects safely, within budget, and on schedule.

The Electrical Engineer supports facility operations, diagnose, and resolve issues with existing equipment, improving facility operations and reducing unplanned downtime through improved electrical systems and life cycle management of aging systems. The Electrical Engineer must have hands-on and field experience and be aware of requirements in a medical device or pharmaceutical plant environment.

Requires domestic and periodic international travel per business needs, up to 50% travel. Collaboration with external and internal customers (Sales, Operations, EHS), requiring the ability to have diplomacy to work through differing priorities, project scope, and schedules. Ability to manage contractors in the capacity of supplying parts and services. A strong engineering background, with electrical engineering competency is required for the successful candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and implement EO process related technology improvements/advances inclusive of electrical systems and controls, such as specification and sizing with facility-level transformers, generators, motor control centers (MCCs), breaker panels, and general three phase equipment.
  • Work with Regional Maintenance Managers and plant engineers to implement electrical systems improvements.
  • Assist facility Maintenance Supervisors, Regional Maintenance Managers and Plant Engineers in troubleshooting facilities electrical issues and help develop solutions.
  • Provide and implement solutions to improve performance, reliability and efficiency of electrical systems.
  • Improve facility reliability by managing and monitoring electrical system sizing, load requirements and managing system lifecycles.
  • Work with Contractors, Project Managers, Plant Engineers, and Regional Maintenance Managers in a team approach to improve facility operations and systems.
  • Manage and support installation projects, to include budgeting, tracking, and execute testing as needed to support objectives.
  • Understand, read, and create electrical systems, including control panels, wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Develop, review, approve, and execute IQ and OQ documentation as related to various projects as required in the medical and/or pharmaceutical environment while ensuring compliance to all applicable standards related to technology including federal, state, local regulatory codes, and customer, operations, and corporate requirements.
  • Execute projects utilizing available internal resources, suppliers, and key subcontractors, as required.
  • Provide strategic oversight and management of applicable process electrical and control systems to ensure required upgrades are implemented and key project initiatives are supported with a specific focus on evaluating load requirements as they relate to new and existing equipment.
