Job Description
DUTIES
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Work with the Site Manager to oversee all aspects of the breeding and farrowing processes.
- Assist in the breeding, farrowing, insemination, gestation herd including feeding, watering, and checking for discharges, abortions or sick sows.
- Plan and oversee feed usage and ordering, transportation schedules, overall cleanliness of the site, facility repair and maintenance, safety policies and procedures, biosecurity policies and procedures, nutrient storage facilities and environmental controls of the facility.
- Evaluate, discipline and terminate employees in partnership with management.
- Responsible for all aspects of animal care ensuring the animals are properly monitored and cared for with proper treatments.
REQUIREMENTS
- Requires 12 months of experience in sow breeding and care.
- Requires the following special skills or requirements:
- Care for large sow and piglet herds;
- Biosecurity - Adhering to biosecurity policies and fixing bio-security violations.
- Ability to understand and operate data entry processes.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, climb over 48 inch gates, regularly walk, stand, push, pull, bend, kneel, use hands to handle animals, reach with hands/arms, climb or balance as well as talk and hear.
- Ability to obtain a driving license.
