The site Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Specialist plays an essential role in this Management System through hands on execution of the Global / Regional HSE Standards, driving a winning HSE culture and driving associate involvement.

The Health, Safety and Environment Specialist will drive and manage the site's Health and Safety initiatives while driving sustainable cultural changes. This critical role understands the interworking relationship between HSE and other aspects of the Mars business while living by the Mars Principles. The role will primarily focus on Safety and Health initiatives for a specific Value Stream but depending on the needs of the site, this role could also focus on Environmental compliance.

What are we looking for?

  • A bachelor's degree in science (engineering, chemistry, safety, IH, environmental sciences or relevant discipline)
  • 3+ years of HSE experience with at lease 1-2 years in an HSE role at a Manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving HSE programs/systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of HSE regulations (Local and Federal) and audit requirements.
  • A self-driven proactive Safety Professional with a passion for sustainable cultural change.
  • Ability to lead with influence, work with cross functional teams and drive desired results.
  • Working knowledge in waste management and waste minimization in a manufacturing environment.
  • Success in working with multiple waste streams and driving continuous improvement initiatives around waste management.



What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Develop and deploy the site specific HSE programs and plans to position the site as a best-in-class organization. Deliver training and coaching to establish clear understanding by all site associates on HSE expectations.
  • Lead the effective implementation and utilization of risk assessment and risk prediction processes at the site and drive for appropriate mitigation measures to lower site environmental and safety risks.
  • Ensure effective communication and understanding by all affected associates.
  • Develop a prioritized, multi-tiered risk-based prioritization plan. Work with site and central resources to execute on plan.
  • Ensure investigation of all HSE related incidents utilizing specific tools to drive to root cause and identify actions to prevent recurrence. Drive completion of recognized corrective actions to prevent incident recurrence are effectively implemented, this includes execution of corrective actions developed from other site incidents.
  • Serve as a site level HSE technical expert, providing technical expertise/coaching as needed in all areas and initiatives of the function including capital project review and risks management associated with noncapital modifications.
  • Use a data driven approach to manage, modify and prioritize site HSE direction. Share and use data to influence, motivate, measure and drive continuous improvement. Upwardly communicate performance toward company goals for safety and the environment.
