Job Description

Civil Engineering Roadway Design Engineers to work on transportation projects, mainly focusing on planning, design, construction, and maintenance of various roadway and infrastructure projects. Position responsibilities will include site surveys and inspections to collect data and assess the feasibility, risks and potential impacts of the projects; preparing technical drawings, specifications, calculations and cost estimates using computer-aided design (CAD) software and civil engineering tools that include the Microsoft and Bentley suite of software applications; collaborating with team members and senior engineers, architects, contractors and clients to ensure the projects meet the technical, budgetary and regulatory requirements; performing quality control and data field analyses, material inspections for roadway related design and construction projects to ensure compliance with the applicable Tollway, Illinois Department of Transportation, County, Municipal, Township, and project specific manuals, standards and codes supplemental to the standard specifications for road and bridge construction; apply experience in roadway geometric design analysis and construction inspection; troubleshooting and resolving any issues or problems that arise during the design, construction, or operation phases of the projects.

Utilization of a variety of tools to perform tasks. This includes software applications, measuring instruments, surveying equipment, and testing devices. Apply knowledge and inspection experience related to material properties and construction applications Specifically, the civil engineering tools include the Microsoft and Bentley suite of software applications that enable civil engineers to design, model, analyze, and document roadway and infrastructure projects: roadway geometric design to evaluate highways, urban streets, roundabouts, intersections, and interchanges through traffic analysis, pavement design, signage and pavement marking design, erosion control and stormwater pollution prevention, and accessibility and safety assessments to create and edit horizontal and vertical alignments, profiles, cross sections, superelevation, and transitions; terrain modeling to generate and manipulate digital terrain models from survey data, lidar, photogrammetry to perform cut and fill analysis, volume calculations, grading, and earthwork analyses; drainage and utilities to design and analyze stormwater drainage systems, sanitary sewers, water distribution networks, pipelines, and other utilities Including cable, telephone, and electric. Apply hands-on experience and proficiency with Bentley MicroStation Open Roads Designer. Apply experience with quantitative evaluation and procedural project documentation skills with Bluebeam. Rely on proficiency in civil engineering technical and business writing.
