Job Summary:
Provides support to perform the required standard operating procedures of the Core Research Facility. This includes the execution of research activities associated with established protocols. Works with Core Technician or Sr Core Technician in utilizing the facility's specialized equipment and services.
Specific Responsibilities:
Administration
Performs intake functions for the laboratory such as logging of samples and service requests, and the dissemination of basic information to users (i.e.,
Maintains established laboratory inventories.
Places orders.
Records work accurately and completely.
Collaboration
Interacts primarily with other Core Staff.
Compliance
Follows University safety protocols, relative to the use of combustibles, radioactivity, toxic material, and/or carcinogenic.
Maintains sterile conditions as required..
Prepares reagents.
Scientific
Conducts experiments, assays, and records results.
Reads and follows experimental protocols.
Calculates, compiles, and communicates results to the Core Scientist.
Technical
Prepares and operates equipment for experiments, assays, measurements,
Supports the execution and facilitation of specialized services.
Assists in performing minor equipment repairs, according to manufacturer
Cleans and performs general maintenance on equipment, according to
Abides by all University, sponsor and federal rules and regulations.
Using an entry level of skill, completes the following activities
Molecular Biology:
DNA, RNA, Protein isolation, purification and expression
Southern, Northern, Western blotting
PCR, RT-PCR
Plasmid preparation
Cloning, mapping and sequencing of DNA
Recombinant virus production and purification
Cellular Biology:
Cell culture, cell isolation
Functional studies
Transfection
Immunofluorescence assays
Image analysis and quantification
Chemistry:
Analyze organic chemistry
Column chromatography
Chromatography
Enzymatic digestions
HPLC
NMR
Mass spectrometry
Protein extractions
Solid phase extraction
Histology:
Tissue fixation/processing: embedding, preparation of
Immunohistochemistry
Microscopy Immunology:
Flow cytometry
ELISA, Elispot assay
Cytokine assay
Antibody production and purification
Animal:
Husbandry
Breeding and screening transgenic mice
Dissections
Blood collection
Surgical procedures
Database management of colony
Equipment Used:
Analytical balance
Autoclave
Blood gas analyzers
Centrifuge
Electrophoresis unit
pH meter
UV/Vis Spectrophotometer
Scintillation counter
pH meter, plate reader
Other (please specify):
DNA/RNA quality and quantity check
Reporting sample QC results to users
Prepare DNA/RNA samples for conduct
of next-gen sequencing

Completes other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
HS diploma or equivalent and some basic science courses is required.
Target hiring range for this position will be between $17.88 to $25.15per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
