The DSI is a research center setting the intellectual agenda for the data science and AI field and an innovator and provider of data education at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels. Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director & Chief of Staff, the Corporate Partnerships Director leads Industry Affiliate Program member recruitment efforts and executes strategic engagements to support the research and educational mission of the Data Science Institute (DSI), and to further the goals of its corporate partners. The Director develops and implements a corporate outreach strategy to meet Data Science Clinic needs, DSI goals for continued growth, and joint research opportunities. The Director manages the day-to-day execution of the Industry Affiliate Program while developing and managing new and existing corporate members. The Director delivers a great experience to members through high touchpoint communication and serves as member's liaison internally.

Responsibilities
  • Drives recruitment strategy to expand and retain a broad portfolio of corporate Industry Affiliate Program members to meet demands based on data science student enrollments.
  • Manages the creation and promotion of new member recruitment campaigns.
  • Drives program revenue on an annual basis to meet projected budget goals.
  • Identifies prospective corporate members and cultivates solicitation strategies to create a diverse portfolio of industry partners.
  • Develops deep knowledge of the local data science and AI community.
  • Communicates and builds professional relationships with corporate partners.
  • Acts as a strategist and project lead to plan, develop and disseminate information designed to keep the University informed of the Industry Affiliate Program.
  • Analyzes data to assess the effectiveness of communication, recruitment, and retention strategies and develops plans for improvement.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Data Science Clinic and clinic staff on project scoping and timelines.
  • Gains command and familiarity with data science and AI faculty expertise.
  • Supports the Executive Director and Faculty Co-Directors by identifying prospective corporate members and providing strategy and briefing materials for meetings.
  • Explores joint research opportunities between Industry Affiliate members and faculty research areas of interest.
  • Manages Industry Affiliate Program budget resources and logistical tasks for Industry Affiliate Program activities.
  • Solves complex and unique problems related to the execution of the Industry Affiliate Program.
  • In coordination with the Data Science Clinic and University Research Administration, manages the delivery of the member's benefits, in accordance with the Industry Affiliate Program MOU.
  • Partners with Industry Affiliate Program Core members to develop customized recruiting and professional education opportunities.
  • Coordinates and partners with other university offices, such as Corporate Engagement Office, Career Advancement, and UChicagoGRAD.
  • Surveys and assesses Industry Affiliate Program members about both needs and experiences, and acts on data collected.
  • Analyzes job market trends and data, and adapts outreach accordingly.
  • Provides specialized professional expertise in program management. Implements plans for educational programs and initiatives and acts as a liaison between the program and program participants.
  • Plans and develops program objectives and/or content. Researches and identifies trends and needs and establishes program directions accordingly.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in business, communications, marketing, a STEM field, higher education administration, or related field.

Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in sales, recruiting, student services, or other related job.
  • Prior experience working within the broad STEM fields.
  • Experience building strategic partnerships and programs with academic and private sectors.
  • Combination of non-profit and corporate experience.

  • Organized self-starter, able to work strategically and independently.
  • Effective bridge-builder, able to work across communities.
  • Demonstrated success in building collaborative relationships with diverse constituencies.

  • A resourceful problem-solver and critical thinker, able to be proactive in leveraging opportunities and anticipating and averting problems.
  • Experience working with researchers.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:
  • Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in data management and analysis.
  • Familiarity with Zoom video conferencing platform.
