Position: Mental Health Associate I
Location: Chicago, IL
Full Time
Hours: Self schedule from Sunday to Saturday, rotating weekends and holidays 7:00am - 3:30pm an3pm-11:30pm
Required Travel: No

What you will need:
Bachelor of Science in Psychology or a related field.
Internship or previous experience in dealing with psychiatric patients.
Current CPR certification with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.

JOB SUMMARY

The Mental Health Counselor provides patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse and assists in maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu.

RESPONSIBILITIESEssential Functions
*Demonstrates a commitment to the mission of Swedish Hospital and demonstrates a service orientation and adheres to all responsibilities and standards of the hospital.

Provides direct, individualized patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Maintains a safe and therapeutic milieu. Enhances own professional growth and development. Reads, discusses and evaluates current research. Demonstrates knowledge of nursing/hospital policies and procedures. Demonstrates cost containment in the position of patient care.

Other Functions

Performs other duties as assigned.

PATIENT CARE/AGE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Variable: adolescent, young adult, adult, older adult and geriatric needs are all assessed.
Knowledge of treatment for substance is also helpful

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
Participate in unit based committees and meetings in formulating unit goals.
Assists in interviewing applicants.

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS

Nursing, Respiratory, Radiology, Laboratory, Central Transport, Pastoral Care, Admitting, Food Services, Volunteers, Human Resources, Information Systems, Salespersons

ENVIRONMENT

Standing, walking, bending, lifting patients, pushing
Restraining of aggressive patients
Exposure to communicable disease
Risk of injury by violent patients
Computer entry
Potential exposure to airborne diseases is the same as for any individual working in a hospital environment that is dependent on a ceiling ventilation system for in-flow and out-flow of air.
