Job Description

Hybrid position-some telecommuting flexibility. Must be able to work from the Bolingbrook office T-TR, may work remotely from home on M and F

 

Responsibilities:

 

Administration (90%)

  • SQL server administration as it relates to Wi-Tronix SAS application performance, scalability, reliability, disaster recover, and architecture. SQL server administration for all other Wi-Tronix databases
  • Ensure all database servers are backed up in a way that meets the business’s Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)
  • Test backups to ensure we can meet the business’ Recovery Time Objectives (RTO)
  • Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends
  • Configure SQL Server 24×7 monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms
  • Document and recommend SQL security to achieve best practices and least privilege
  • As new systems are brought in-house, choose whether to use clustering, log shipping, mirroring, AWS, or other technologies
  • Install and configure new SQL Servers
  • Deploy database change scripts provided by third party vendors
  • When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changes
  • Document the company’s database environment
  • Tuning T-SQL queries to improve performance
  • Ensure that new database code meets company standards for readability, reliability, and performance
  • Periodically, give developers a list of the top 10 most resource-intensive queries on the server and suggest ways to improve performance on each
  • Design indexes for existing applications, choosing when to add or remove indexes
  • Created and maintained SQL Agent Jobs
  • Conduct SQL Server lunch-and-learn sessions for application developers
  • Advise and support developers on the most efficient database designs (tables, datatypes, stored procedures, functions, etc)
  • Research and explore other database technologies such as Postgres, MySQL, NoSQL, AWS RDS, ETC
  • Develop and implement dash boards, reports, and integrations (including SSIS Packages,SSRS)
  • Work closely with IT, Product Development, and internal business users in design, implementation and execution of database design, changes, rollouts, and upgrades.
  • Lead assigned projects as directed which may include implementation and enhancements of new or existing functionality, including articulating requirements and translating them into high quality and effective solutions
  • Perform reviews of functional specifications and system integration test plans. Confirm integrated processes are tested and approved across applicable functional areas.
  1. Subject Matter Expertise and Collaboration (10%)
  • Communicate with colleagues, management and business unit(s) concerning requirements, project status and issues.
  • Understand, support and contribute to current Wi-Tronix business objectives, quality management, and industry standards by following stated policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Be available for periodic on-call duties with their supervisors quarterly.  Report and review progress monthly with supervisor

 

 

 

Requirements – Education, experience and skills: 

 

Requires: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related Technology degree and 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator or related position.  In the alternative, a Master’s degree in Information Technology, or related Technology degree and 3 years of experience as a Database Administrator or related position will also be considered.

 

Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate Certification is required.

 

Previous experience must include the following skillset: 

 

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2014, 2016, 2019
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise and Standard Editions
  • Experience with clustering, mirroring, and alwayson
  • Experience in performance tuning (such as optimizing stored procedures, views, indexes, triggers)
  • SQL Server DMV’s and SQL Profiler
  • SQL, SSRS and SSIS
  • Experience with server in a virtual environment
  • Experience in relational databases and client/server environments
  • .NET support
  • SQL Server third party tools
