Job Description

Provide technical expertise and guidance in development of major manufacturing projects, working with internal/external suppliers to support/improve manufacturing productivity and cost effectiveness. Requires experience in various or specific fields of manufacturing such as welding, heat treat, and manufacturing technology. Experience with product design to combine with process design expertise to provide for improved manufacturability of parts and major components. Provide direction and guidance to other manufacturing personnel in a continuous effort to improve manufacturing productivity. Work with suppliers (both internal and external) in the development of projects, which ensure the most efficient and cost-effective systems or operations to produce quality products. Actively involved with suppliers to analyze current and proposed product/process designs to determine feasibility of using existing designs or modifying the designs to improve the process and/or product. Ensure Engineering, Purchasing and shop personnel both at Caterpillar and suppliers are involved in the approval process so that sound decisions are made improving manufacturing processes, quality and/or reducing costs. Explain to suppliers the tooling, dies, and fixtures needed to improve processes. Determine adaptability of existing corporate applications and prepare feasibility studies for new applications. Coordinate various existing systems and operations with new systems and operations to ensure compatibility and direct others to modify systems accordingly to implement total package. Provide leadership in the implementation of integrated technologies within the factory. Develop individual presentations on all integration projects and prepare and establish priorities for cost effectiveness. Perform liaison duties with various functional areas to promote smooth transition of new and revised corporate and plant systems and operations. Adhere to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, and ergonomics in performing assigned duties. Responsible for the implementation of major systems and the coordination of those systems with the total plant. Deep knowledge of Rigid Frame Off Highway Truck Assembly. 10% International Travel Required.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field plus Eight (8) years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, Industrial Engineer, or related occupation. In the alternative, this position requires a master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field plus Three (3) years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, Industrial Engineer, or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Process planning, virtual manufacturing, validation, NPI process knowledge, print reading (Pro-E and Teamcenter), and design knowledge; (2) Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing; (3) Safety and ergonomics knowledge; (4) CQMS; and (5) Data Analytics and Product Service.
