About the role
We are looking for a Principal Advisor - Strategy and Product Advancement (Aluminium) to be based in either our Chicago or Montreal offices.
As a Principal Advisor - Strategy and Product Advancement (Aluminium), you will help formulate, shape and/or refine the Go-to-Market Commercial and investment strategies for the Aluminium products of current and planned operations in alignment with Commercial Strategy, Group Strategy and ESG objectives.
Join this fast-paced team that is accountable for driving the investments and long-term commercial and product strategy across the global Aluminium smelter system. Reporting to the Manager, Strategy Aluminium, you will:
Work with Sales, Market Analysis, Market Development, Technical Marketing, Product Group, R&D and other functional teams to monitor the market and industry for trends for primary and recycled Aluminium that provide value growth opportunities for Rio Tinto and its customers; evaluate and contribute to business cases for new Commercial opportunities and initiatives.
Define, syndicate and implement the Commercial Go To Market strategy for a specific suite of Aluminium products by:
Analyzing commercial, industry, technical, operational, and financial data to support value creative business opportunities, decisions, and strategic directions,
Defining the product portfolio of the future to support the needs of key market and customer segments,
Supporting and influencing the development of Rio Tinto's value proposition, pricing policies, brand management activities and sales enablement tooling,
Developing strong collaborative working relationships across internal stakeholder teams,
Understanding and educating internal stakeholders on the key value drivers for the Aluminium business, and developing high quality materials to support strategy development and implementation, ensuring that the voices of the customer and the operations (market to mine) are well represented,
Identifying and supporting the implementation of business improvement opportunities associated with markets, customers and operations.
Ensuring that prioritized business cases for investment projects critical for the Commercial Go To Market strategy are delivered on time and on budget.
Provide the relevant strategic input, based on the Go To Market strategy for Aluminium products, for:
Studies required to progress Rio Tinto long-term projects,
The development of new markets and partnerships, new products and new assets
Support senior and executive management on business reporting activities and synthesis of information for communication
Support strategy execution, and project manage select strategic growth projects.
What you'll bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
A University degree in either a technical or commercial discipline,
Experience in strategy development and the evaluation of commercial opportunities based on complex business problems, with the ability to present strategic ideas in a simple and digestible manner,
Analytical ability to consolidate insights from a diverse set of internal and external parties that will inform and illustrate key opportunities / threats,
Ability to effectively navigate ambiguity and change context to develop workable and sustainable solutions,
Commercial awareness partnered with Rio Tinto's principles of care, courage and curiosity,
Influencing skills with the ability to translate strategic and technical content into actionable insights,
Project management and change management experience, particularly in a matrix organization; stakeholder engagement and business partnering skills key requisites,
Experience in strategy implementation and execution,
Ability to travel around 10% of the time
Fluent language skills of French and English - spoken, written, and reading
It will also be beneficial if you have:
Experience in the aluminium industry or other commodities / mining fields,
Prior experience in management or strategy consulting.
