About the Department

UChicagoGRAD, a part of the Office of the Provost that supports graduate education across the University, is an innovative national model for preparing graduate students and postdocs to succeed while at UChicago and beyond. With teams focusing on admissions, fellowship advising, writing support and public speaking training, diversity initiatives, career exploration and planning, and administration, UChicagoGRAD works with campus partners to support students and postdocs at every stage of their academic careers and beyond. UChicagoGRAD functions as a one-stop shop for graduate students and postdocs to access resources that support timely degree completion and to enhance professional preparation that helps them translate their degrees into a variety of careers. UChicagoGRAD works with academic departments and divisions as well as campus-wide offices to develop and implement outreach, recruitment, and yield efforts; graduate and postdoc-focused programs, workshops, and events; training and support tailored to UChicago graduate students and postdocs; and administrative practices and policies in support of graduate education.

Job Summary

The job conducts routine assignments in the implementation and administration of admissions strategies, policies, and procedures. Coordinates the recruitment of students across the University, with guidance from others.

Responsibilities
  • Plans and executes outreach and recruitment efforts, including public presentations on and off campus, recruitment travel, and multi-day recruitment and yield programs, particularly with respect to prospective graduate students from a wide variety of underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Recruits to the University's 100+ master's, professional, and doctoral programs, by understanding and communicating the nature and requirements of each program.
  • Tracks and analyzes program and outcomes data across multiple admissions cycles for all pipeline and recruitment programs utilizing Slate CRM data.
  • Works in close coordination with campus partners, including deans of students and admissions offices in the University's 12 graduate schools and divisions, faculty, students, the Center for Identity + Inclusion, and other stakeholders.
  • Serves as the University's liaison to a number of recruitment consortia, as well as develops and maintains relationships with faculty and staff at other institutions and pipeline programs.
  • Develops and promotes resources and information for faculty, administrators, and current students to increase awareness of best practices for recruiting and enrolling students from a wide range of underrepresented or under resourced backgrounds.
  • Governs the management of applications to certain summer programs (REUs) in our application management system (Slate) and serves as liaison to the programs' staff.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of UChicago's Graduate Exchange programs for doctoral students.
  • Travels and recruits in an assigned geography, assisting with planning and delivering public presentations, special events, and other recruitment activities.
  • Maintains relationships with all individuals involved in the recruitment process, including routinely counseling students and parents regarding the admission process.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Working Conditions
