Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing – Director of Training

at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, United States

Job Description

Job Opening Id: 50422

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (PBS) and the Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing (ISGMH) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (FSM) seek a full-time non-tenure-eligible Clinical-Educator at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The faculty appointment will be in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and affiliated with ISGMH. The Director of Training will spend 60% of their time dedicated to training, research, and administration and 40% on clinical practice.

Position Description

Training, Research, and Administration (60%)

We have identified the need to develop training programs around LGBTQ health, mental health, and wellbeing. Given ISGMH’s expertise and background, we can help future health and mental health workers and practitioners, as well as frontline community organizations, be better prepared and knowledgeable of the needs and vulnerabilities of LGBTQ individuals and communities. In addition, many of our community partners, with whom we have strong collaborations, have specific expertise that can help refine and focus trainings for health and mental health workers and practitioners.

The Director of Training will also help catalyze other areas of training infrastructure provided by ISGMH. The Director of Training will be responsible for conducting a landscape analysis to determine key training topics, and stakeholder focus groups to identify key training audiences and preferred training formats. The director will also identify how these trainings can integrate with the University’s educational programs (e.g., certificates, continuing education, etc.). This background work will lead to the development of accessible trainings on a range of LGBTQ-related health, mental health, and wellbeing topics. The range of trainings will be provided via multiple formats to meet the needs of health and mental health workers and practitioners and their organizations or agencies. Additionally, the Director of Training will expand upon other grant-funded initiatives in ISGMH that have training components whose audiences are health and mental health workers and practitioners, social services and nonprofit organizations, and graduate and postdoctoral level trainees. Specifically, these include the Implementation Science Coordination Initiative (ISCI), the Sociostructural Implementation Science Coordination Initiative (SISCI), and the Summer Intensive Program in Intersectional BIPOC SGM-focused HIV Science.
