The Global Analytical Science function is an internal service that supports operationalizing Mars Snacking R&D programs. The Associate Scientist will provide analytical and technical support to enable quality growth, value leadership, and sustainability. This role will collaborate with cross-functional technical partners across R&D and other functions within Supply, Commercial, Finance, Legal, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs.

What are we looking for?
Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related science with 1+ years experience in a laboratory
  • Experience performing analytical method protocols while working in compliance to quality standards and HSE protocols
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to work in compliance to Good Laboratory Practices and standards



Preferred Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Analytical Chemistry or related discipline
  • 3+ years of professional experience in the Analytical Sciences field within the food, beverage, and/or confections industry
  • Knowledge and experience with any of the following Analytical techniques:
    • Material and physical characterization, including rheology, texture, particle size, x-ray diffraction (XRD), or differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)
    • Imaging science, including digital/optical microscopy, x-ray computed tomography or scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, problem solving, organizational and time management skills, and customer focus
  • Experience with executing operational responsibilities of a laboratory, including purchasing materials, equipment set up/operation/calibration, troubleshooting, training and preventive maintenance protocols, and proper chemicals management
  • Familiarity with basic statistical methods and basic ISO laboratory requirement



What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Functional Operations: Responsible for on time and in full execution of analytical function responsibilities as set by the Analytical Science Manager. This includes laboratory operational responsibilities such as sample management, performing assigned analytical methods to generate data, preparing reports and analyzing data for insights, supporting preventative maintenance program & lab protocols, adhering to Quality Management Process (QMP), HSE and Good Lab Practices compliance, supporting audits, and others
  • Technical Proficiency: Performs all assigned method and chemistry techniques with minimal supervision upon training completion. Provides accurate and timely data generation for internal, compendia, and vendor methods including calculations and interpretation of results. Perform basic technical writing for the generation of routine standard operating procedures, test methods and other laboratory or quality protocols with guidance.
  • Project Support: May be called upon to support or lead projects with guidance spanning shelf-life studies, troubleshooting and continuous improvement, QMP compliance, client alignment scope intake in area of expertise, and other data science related projects.
  • Capability Development:
    • Will support projects in digitalization, including lab digitization, simulation and modeling, generative AI
    • Explore and develop new science capabilities towards modernization and sustainability of lab, factory, and/or farms
