Position Summary, Requirements, and Qualifications

Overview
The Department of Psychology at Northern Illinois University (NIU) announces an opening for an Assistant Director of the Psychological Services Center (PSC). NIU is a doctoral-granting public institution that enrolls more than 15,000 students, with a diverse undergraduate population. NIU and the Psychology Department have a strong commitment to achieving diversity and inclusiveness among faculty, staff, and students, and to the development of a diverse educational environment that affirms the experience of all of its members.

NIU's Psychology Department is in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and includes 22 full time faculty members. The Department offers a Specialist degree in School Psychology, as well as PhD degree specializations in the following areas: clinical, cognitive, developmental, industrial-organizational, neuroscience, school, and social. The Clinical Psychology program has been continually accredited by APA since 1972 and adheres to a scientist-practitioner model of training. While all students gain training in behavioral and cognitive-behavioral approaches, students have the opportunity to pursue a focus in child clinical/developmental or trauma psychology within the clinic. The APA accredited and NASP-approved School Psychology programs train students who go onto become educationally licensed school psychologists and professionally licensed psychologists.

Serving as the training clinic for graduate students in the Clinical PhD program and the School Psychology SSP and PhD programs, the PSC provides psychological assessment and evidence-based outpatient therapy services for individuals and families. The PSC serves a diverse range of clients from young children to older adults and a mix of university students/staff and members of the broader community. The PSC is a 4000 sq. ft. facility connected to the psychology building that includes ample office space and treatment rooms, a graduate student work area, a newly acquired electronic medical records system, telehealth capabilities, and digital audio/visual system for recording and viewing sessions.
