General Information & Responsibilities
The Federal Work Study Program provides jobs for students at Black Hawk College demonstrating financial need. Eligible students typically work between 6 – 15 hours per week.
In order to qualify for the Federal Work Study Program, you must:
- Receive Financial Aid
- Be approved for Work Study by Financial Aid and Human Resources
- Current BHC student enrolled in 6 or more credit hours per semester
- Cumulative 2.0 GPA (per the Academic Progress Policy www.bhc.edu/academic-progress)
BHC students who don’t meet the above eligibility requirements, may be eligible for non-Work Study positions. These positions are subject to budget limitations/availability of funds and are not always available.
Description of Duties
The Hawk’s Cupboard is a food pantry to feed BHC students in need. The Hawk’s Cupboard stocks nonperishable food and toiletries. BHC is in partnership with River Bend Foodbank for food donations. Students can get food at any time or they can stop by outside Building 3 on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month (during designated times) and we will put bags of food in their car. Duties and Responsibilities Include:- Helping unload truck from River Bend Food Bank delivery
- Packing bags with groceries for drive up events
- Stocking food pantry
- Keeping inventory of needed/wanted items
- Working with the pantry captain to order from River Bend
- Checking in students/employees utilizing the food pantry
- Ensuring new visitors complete a registration sheet
- Organizing the Hawk’s Cupboard as needed following pantry dates
- Holding open pantry hours to allow for better access of non-perishable goods
- Assisting with any drives that are planned
- Ensuring that marketing is placed in appropriate places on campus and keeping related marketing up to date.
- Other assigned duties
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis

Anyone hired for Work Study positions at BHC will be required to complete an online employment application, a background check, and required paperwork with the Human Resources Department within 3 days of hire. Work Study/Student Worker Employees are paid current IL minimum wage ($14.00 per hour.) Black Hawk College does not sponsor employment visas.
