Senior Project Manager - Forensics

The Building Science Solutions (BSS) team within Intertek's Building and Construction group is recruiting a Senior Project Manager to join the Hillside, Illinois office.

The ideal candidate for this Senior Project Manager position will have a background and interest in building enclosure consulting for existing and new building structures. They should also have an interest in leading project teams, developing a client base locally and/or nationally, molding the local BSS team, and contributing technically to our overall, international, BSS team.

What you'll do:

  • Manage/perform multiple simultaneous forensic assignments within architectural, engineering and construction disciplines including but not limited to:
    • Obtaining and reviewing available public information and relevant technical data.
    • Coordination, scheduling and execution of on-site assessment and investigation, including documentation of existing conditions and budgeting collaboration with clients.
    • Collection and preservation of field collected data and physical evidence, when authorized for the same.
    • Review and detailed analysis of other provided documents, drawings, sketches, codes, standards, etc., as relevant to the scope of the investigation.
    • Preparation and development of expert opinions to be expressed verbally and/or in writing in a clear, correct, and concise manner.
    • Maintenance of files, records, photographs, etc. in preparation for, and response to, subpoenas.
  • Provide added value services for clients, such as:
    • Preparation of repair recommendations, diagrammatic sketches, construction documents, and/or cost estimates.
    • Development and execution of testing protocols relevant to forensic investigations.
    • Assist with/perform field performance testing and water leakage testing of roofing and waterproofing systems, windows, curtain walls, and other building elements.
    • Assist in third-party contractor procurement and management, as authorized by client.
    • Provide technical guidance to clients for locating and selecting experts in other disciplines who could provide additional insight into an investigation for a client (environmental, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical, etc.).
  • Lead, mentor and develop junior level staff members toward increasing levels of technical competency and professional development towards independent project management.
  • Assist in local, regional and national marketing, business development and sales communications, technical presentations to industry trade groups and specific targeted events related to expansion of forensic services and markets, with national department management.
  • Monitor contract requirements, invoicing, and receivables, and maintain acceptable profit margins on assignments being managed.
  • Build and maintain repeat client relationships, based on trust, confidence and unwavering ethics.
  • Actively contribute to the growth and development of additional technical competencies within the Forensics Services Team, including development of technical presentations, articles and white papers.
  • Maintain enough workload/backlog to meet target staff utilization rates.


Position Requirements and Qualifications

  • BS in architecture, engineering, or other related degree, required
  • 8+ years' experience in enclosure consulting with minimum 5+ years' of which involve managing forensic building enclosure consulting in Illinois, required
