Graduate Assistantship Overview
Elmhurst University welcomes applications for a graduate assistantship in Access and Disability Services for the 2024-2025 academic year, which is eligible for renewal for the 2025-2026 academic year. This is a student position. Interested applicants will need to submit an application for admission into a degree seeking graduate program at elmhurst.edu/graduatestudies and be accepted before becoming eligible for consideration for a graduate assistant position that correlates with their area of study.
Graduate assistants at Elmhurst University may be hired for a full tuition waiver based on 20 hours of service per week. Graduate assistants will also receive a stipend while they are working, paid bi-weekly, in support of their continued education. Graduate assistants will participate in their assistantships during the Fall and Spring terms at minimum and may be required to participate during January and/or Summer terms.
Eligible Graduate Programs: M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership, M.S.Ed. in Special Education, M.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or M.B.A.
Weekly Hours: 20
Tuition Waiver: Full
Stipend: $2,500 per academic year, September-December and February-May
Terms: Fall, Spring
Special Notation: Offers for this position are conditional upon acceptance into one of the above noted graduate programs at Elmhurst University. Graduate students must maintain full-time enrollment in their graduate program in order to maintain a graduate assistantship.
Nature of Work
The Graduate Assistant for Access and Disability Services (ADS) is primarily responsible for providing support and referrals for students registered with the ADS office and communicating with students, faculty, and staff regarding classroom and testing accommodations. This position is supervised by the Director of Access and Disability Services and works closely with the Learning Center team on additional projects.

Essential Functions
Demonstrate an understanding and ability to maintain student privacy in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA.
Prepare accommodation notices
Communicate with students, faculty, and staff about accommodations
Input and track data
Schedule student exams and update ADS calendar throughout the academic semester
Proctor exams
Organize, update, and manage the ADS OneDrive and spreadsheets
Serve as an academic coach working with students on organizational/time management skills, study tips, note-taking, and goal setting and other strategies to foster academic success
Refer students to on-campus resources (academic tutors, Weigand Center for Professional Excellence, Wellness Center, etc.)
Collaborate with campus partners
Support the daily operations of the Learning Center, including staffing the front desk, greeting students and faculty, managing the space to ensure that tutoring sessions run smoothly for both students and peer tutors, helping students schedule tutoring sessions, providing directions and sharing resources with students, cleaning the center, and restocking supplies
Assist with updating ADS policies and procedures
Other Duties and Responsibilities

Bachelor's degree
Excellent oral and written communication skills

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is typically subject to indoor work, though some outdoor work may be required. Physical activities include repetitive motion and exerting up to 10 pounds of force in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
