About the Department
The Ben May Department for Cancer Research was formally established in 1951 with funds provided by Alabama businessman and philanthropist Ben May. it continues to receive generous support from the Ben May Charitable Trust. The work done by the collection of laboratories within the Ben May Department for Cancer Research has advanced cancer treatment by providing answers to fundamental biological questions and by finding applications for groundbreaking scientific discoveries.
The Greene Lab is focused on understanding the biology of breast cancer and developing drugs to prevent and treat hormone dependent breast cancers at all stages of progression.
Job Summary
The Senior Research Technician will conduct and assist with ongoing and planned mouse studies of various breast cancer models (human tumor explants and genetic/syngeneic mouse mammary cancer models), including all aspects of mouse handling (maintenance, injections, dissections, imaging, well-being, maintaining breeding colonies). Additional responsibilities include tumor cell culture, laser capture microscopy on human and mouse tissues, ordering of supplies, maintaining equipment and general lab oversight.
Responsibilities
- Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
- Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
- Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
- Maintains recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assisting with developing or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection tools; assisting with building databases; and providing general administrative support. Has general awareness in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific field.
- Performs other related work as needed.
