Job Summary

As a key part of the leadership team of the Chicago Booth Healthcare Initiative, the Senior Associate Director is primarily responsible for developing and growing the organization with a mission to support faculty; facilitate opportunities and community for students and alumni; and working to achieve the Initiative's mission to advance the Chicago Approach of rigorous inquiry throughout the global healthcare community. The position plays a leadership role in the planning and execution of the Initiative's programs and will participate in the implementation of a long-term plan for the Initiative. The Senior Associate Director will be responsible for the design, implementation, and assessment of the Initiative's programs and core activities.

Responsibilities
  • Develops and supports Initiative programs; develops and leverages relationships with other parts of the University to support these programs.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of strategic planning for the Initiative.
  • Provides course support to Booth faculty teaching on healthcare intensive topics, including joining instructional teams as requested by faculty.
  • Supports the hiring of adjuncts and clinical faculty to teach healthcare courses.
  • Manages professional staff, including research staff associatedwith the Initiative, and others including an events/marketing assistant director.
  • Administers Initiative research and data collection initiatives.
  • Consults with and support the healthcare research operations of Booth researchers as needed, including managing relationships with data providers and assisting with legal and regulatory tasks (e.g. data use agreements, IRB).
  • Partners with data governance and information technology teams in Booth and across the University of Chicago to facilitate healthcare research for the Booth research community.
  • Works with appropriate University of Chicago teams on fundraising and meeting with external partners as needed. Participates in stewardship for donors and sponsors.
  • Manages the financials and operations, including responsibility for the budget, workflow and effectiveness of the Initiative.
  • Manages/coordinates activities and communication with external advisory board members.
  • Manages the daily operations of an organizational unit or assists with managing the daily operations of a larger organizational unit, primarily in the areas of financial, purchasing, grant, facilities, human resources and support services management. Ensures compliance of staff with organizational, University and other relevant policies and guidelines.
  • May oversee the management of informational technology planning, ensuring necessary operating and information systems and resources are in place to accomplish strategic goals. Conceives and directs special projects related to the business of the organizational unit.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Education:
  • Master's degree.

Experience:
  • A minimum seven years of administrative or program management experience in a university or research setting.
  • A minimum of two years of experience leading others and driving results through the work of others.
  • Background working with faculty.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Preferred Competencies
  • Familiarity with the U.S. healthcare landscape.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills, as well as organizational skills.
  • Work independently with little supervision; possess a self-motivated disposition; identify opportunities for improvement and recommend effective changes, all while achieving key objectives resulting in desired outcomes.
  • Excellent strategic planning, critical thinking, analytical, and persuasion skills.
  • Handle multiple detailed tasks/projects simultaneously with attention to detail and meet strict deadlines with frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, as well as with students, faculty, and corporate contacts in a multitude of communication methods i.e., in person, email, phone.
  • Professional demeanor, including tact, discretion, and a customer service-oriented approach.
