Position Details:

Core to Grainger's value is our ability to get our customers what they need, when they need it, delivering 30M+ shipments to our 4.5M customers from an extensive network of 250+ distribution centers and branches. The Operations Support team drives the success of this fulfillment network by providing clear visibility into operational health, identifying and driving performance improvements to ensure Grainger delivers the best service to our customers at the lowest cost.

The Director of Analytics & Machine Learning will build and lead a team focused on gathering and leveraging data to provide relevant analytical insights for leaders and team members to better understand performance of our operations and impact of our initiatives. Scope of work will include creation and maintenance of a full suite of reporting, tools and dashboards necessary to run our fulfillment operations, designing and building machine learning capabilities for data ingestion, modeling, and analysis, and providing business intelligence to support strategic decision-making across all levels of leadership.

You Will:

You will support a strategic and enterprise-wide scope with significant impact to our distribution operations, and as such will have high visibility and exposure to executive levels.

Building and leading a team of business analysts, data scientists and data engineers responsible for creating and delivering insights for leadership to solve business problems and make data-driven decisions.
Designing and standing up a machine learning capability to ingest and analyze large datasets to understand their structure, patterns, and relationships to extract meaningful insights.
Partnering across the business to define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness, impact and progress of our operations and initiatives.
Leading creation and management of analytical dashboards, tools and workflow applications that support cross-functional collaboration, decision making, and process execution.
Leading the design, development, and implementation of machine learning models and algorithms to solve complex business problems.
Oversee the end-to-end execution of analytics and machine learning initiatives, from problem formulation and data collection to model development, deployment, and monitoring.
Preparing and presenting analytics to all levels of leadership to communicate progress, insights, and recommendations.
Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation, and scalability in analytics and machine learning workflows.

You Have:

Bachelor's degree in statistics, economics, mathematics, or related field. Master's in statistics, economics, data science, or analytics preferred.
10+ years work experience required.
Experience leading an analytics team with a proven track record of delivering relevant business insights.
Experience driving machine learning capabilities.
Experience with linear regression, logistic regression, cluster analysis, time series analysis, and machine learning/ AI techniques.
Experience with SPSS, SAS, R, Python, and SQL.
Ability to assume high exposure responsibilities and interact with senior leadership.
Strong business acumen and a strategic mindset.
Excellent and proven communication skills.
Ability to establish and sustain strong business relationships and effectively prioritize business needs

Occasional travel may be required to DC and branch field locations.
