Job Summary:

The Senior Associate Director works alongside the Executive Director to oversee and manage the many activities of the Consortium, which involves Northwestern, UIC, and the University of Chicago, as well as CBC-HITES universities (DPI, Rush, Loyola, Rosalind Franklin, and Northern Illinois University). The AD will help develop and execute programming strategy concerning CBC/ CBC-HITES programs including the BioCapital Summit and the Entrepreneurial Fellows. Charged with connecting people, managing projects and communications, and providing oversight for CBC-supported facilities in this multi-institutional organization, the Associate Director will (1) have primary responsibility for running the process for the BioCapital Summit, which includes liaising with logistics and event planning, developing invitations to VC and scientists, operations, and strategy of the Summit (2) administer and execute the Entrepreneurial Fellow program. These programs will be critical to the CBC’s ability to attract and maintain partnerships, enhance local and regional economic development, build engagement, elevate the reputation of our member institution scientists, inspire donations, and increase funding support.

Please note: Associate Director must have transportation available to regularly visit UIC & U. Chicago.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Venture Capitalists and scientists to plan and direct the CBC BioCapital Summit.
  • Act as program liaison to coordinate collaborative activities involving individuals at NU, UC, UIC, and CBC-HITES faculty, which will require i) establishing strong working relationships with faculty members who are award recipients or members of advisory boards, and ii) facilitating interactions between faculty at different institutions who are interested in forming inter-institutional collaborations, and iii) staying in close contact with managers of past, current and future CBC-supported infrastructure projects to enhance collaborative use. (iv) based on literature review, funding databases, and industry trends, develop insights into shifting trends in biomedical research as it relates to the Chicagoland scientific community. Iteratively refine these insights with other members in the community like Portal Innovations, SmartHealth Catalyst, and Kaleidoscope Health Ventures. (v)identify the researchers in the area that are working on said problems and maintain up to date contact and awareness of their publications, research progress, patent filings, and funding needs.
