Job Summary:

Caterpillar is looking for an experienced Product Manager & Customer Experience Architect to join our digital product management team in our journey to shape the future of how we best support our customers. In this hybrid role, which is equal parts product management and experience strategy, you will be an advocate and bring passion and empathy for helping some of the hardest working people on the planet – Cat customers and dealers.

Through collaboration with our business partners, as well as peer product and engineering teams, you will guide digital and physical experiences that both transform and simplify our customers’ and dealers’ day to day work, as well as how they interact with the Cat brand, products, and services This will be accomplished by first seeking to understand our customers’ needs and workflow, as well as our business objectives. You will then lead integrated, cross product initiatives to translate those needs into compelling experiences and ultimately requirements, consistently validating with direct customer feedback along the way.

What You Will Do:

+ Manage the lifecycle of a product by leading multidisciplinary teams and providing vision on what is to be built, domain knowledge, and direction in alignment with Cat’s goals

+ Take ownership for the success and quality of your product

+ Product manage complex, cross product initiatives with high value to the organization, including prioritization, roadmap definition, and elaboration of epics and features

+ Act as a connection point and orchestrator to integrate and align roadmaps and experiences across dependent product teams.

+ Ensure we have deep understanding of customers and their processes (triggers, steps, roles, outcomes) by partnering to drive and execute a mixed-methods research strategy/roadmap

+ Help frame and plan new opportunities – articulating the problem or opportunity to be addressed, the impact, and assumptions and risks to be considered/mitigated

+ Build tight collaboration and understanding of stakeholder needs and business goals – at times facilitating solutioning and brainstorming activities to transform broad ideas and concepts into clear goal alignment and desired customer requirements/experiences.

+ Lead definition of major experience elements – covering the logic, structure, skeleton, and relationships of how an experience should come together across functions/domains

What You Will Have:

Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

Software Product Business Knowledge: Knowledge of and experience with the business aspects and operation of a software product; ability to manage install base, current uses, future plans, and product vision.

Software Product Management: Knowledge of software product management; ability to operate and manage software product development projects at all stages of the product development lifecycle.

Marketing Strategy and Positioning: Knowledge of market research, segmentation, and channels; ability to use business models to develop and implement marketing strategies, objectives, and tactics as well as establishing a communications plan.

Considerations for Top Candidates:

+ Four-year Bachelor’s degree preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, Marketing, HCI, Psychology, Communications, Ethnography, Anthropology, Engineering or related field or equivalent working experience

+ 5+ years in digital product management, user experience, user research, digital strategy, or related function

+ 2+ years applying human-centered design, lean innovation, or design thinking methodologies

+ Superb communication, presentation, storytelling, interpersonal, and analytical skills

+ Ability to work well within multiples teams including business/commercial partners, cross- product portfolio, development, and field facing arms of an organization – aligning differing viewpoints and priorities & objectives along the way

+ Strong accountability, planning, and organizational skills

+ Ability to consider multiple variables of a decision and prioritize accordingly in a fast-paced environment

+ Experience working in an Agile environment while simultaneously managing multiple priorities

+ Experience managing projects using Product Management and/or Agile software tools such as Aha, ProductBoard, Azure DevOps, JIRA, Team Services, Rally

+ Displayed understanding of common and emerging UX and user research methodologies/artifacts

+ Experience utilizing a variety of experience mapping techniques based on need (user story mapping, object mapping (OOUX), assumption mapping, etc.)

+ Strong design background with proven ability to lead, partner, and guide product design decisions

+ Good knowledge of Caterpillar policies, standards, procedures, and a broad understanding of Caterpillar’s organization

+ Domain expert in business applications, fleet management, and/or eCommerce

Summary Pay Range:

$123,480.00 – $185,280.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
