Description:
GENERAL PATIENT CARE – Provides one to one, constant and direct
observation of patients with suicidal ideation. Provides constant and
direct observation of patients who are at risk of causing harm to self
and/or others. Assists assigned staff (RNs and/or PCTs) to meet the
comfort and hygiene needs of the patient by providing assistance with
care services such as toileting activities, ambulation, position changes,
hair care, and feeding. Maintains direct patient observation during all
patient activities, including but not limited to toileting and
transportation.
TECHNICAL CARE – Takes vital signs as needed, while maintaining direct
patient observation. Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
TRANSPORT – Assists with ambulating patients and with
transfer/transport procedures as appropriate.
COMMUNICATION – Performs required documentation and
communicates in a competent and effective manner to meet patient
and/or family needs and regulatory requirements. Maintains strict
confidentiality of patient, employee and department information to
ensure patient rights.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT – Utilizes time and resources effectively to
promote quality and cost outcomes.
Performs other duties as assigned.
III. Position Requirements:
Minimum Education:
Required: High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education
Specify Degree(s): Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program; EMT Program; OR Current enrollment in nursing school or medical school
Residency: CNA, EMT, Nursing Student or Medical Student
Minimum Experience:
Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience
Licensure/Certifications:
Required:
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
Preferred:
ACLS (Advanced Cardio Life Support Certified) and/or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Other: Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program with placement on the Illinois Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry or verification of an equal or higher educational level in a clinically focused program. Individuals working as Patient Care Assistants at Loyola University Medical Center prior to 1997 are exempt from the above guidelines and are grandfathered into the Patient Care Tech roles upon successful completion of an in-house orientation and training program for the Patient Care Tech position. This position requires at least one of the following: -Active CNA ertification -Active EMT certification -Current enrollment in a pre-professional nursing program -Current enrollment in medical school
