Job Overview


We are hiring a Sr. Controls Engineer to our winning team!

The Sr. Controls Engineer will be responsible for programming, designing, specifying, and managing control systems for automated machinery and processes within a manufacturing environment. The Sr. Controls Engineer will need to collaborate professionally with our internal technical resources, suppliers, and management to conceive, engineer and project manage the design and build of custom automation equipment. The position will improve plant and equipment operating efficiency by providing automation and engineering support to the plant operations. He or she will develop and enhance process automation application for present and future automation systems. The role will work with other similar positions across Hubbell to provide management with recommendations on technical advances to achieve company goals and maximize productivity.


A Day In The Life


Responsible for identifying and managing automated equipment sustainability projects to increase production efficiency, capacity and improve product quality.
Managing new automation projects, including concept work, equipment specification, project management, factory acceptance testing, installation, and commissioning/debug.
Interface with mechanical team to control the architecture design and implementation, ensuring the correct support of motion controller configuration, setup, fine tuning, data collection, data analysis and reporting, and equipment safety requirements.
Conduct automation assessments of the sites to identify new automation projects, and implement long range plans for process improvements.
Guide and train designated employees on process control methodology to assist process control improvement efforts.
Develops/reviews/maintains/update related documentation, files, procedures, databases, drawings and schematics in order to ensure integrity of unit instrument and process control technologies.
Provide leadership and communication to all project team members and functional managers such that the project objectives and responsibilities are clearly understood, and progress is tracked and reported.
Complete assigned work within agreed upon schedule and budget while maintaining high level of quality.


What will help you thrive in this role?


Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree or education.
8+ years in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated ability developing and implementing automation processes and equipment.
Must have a very broad electrical background, including hands on experience with PLC's/HMI, robots, motion controls, vision inspection/guidance systems, fieldbus networks and associated programming software.
Solid knowledge in the Automation/Electrical Engineering Design field, with extensive technical experience in the design, optimization, and build of automation equipment.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Instrumentation & Process Control engineering concepts and design including circuits, control systems, as well as a general knowledge of mechanical equipment and systems.
Demonstrated knowledge in the principles of operation, reliability and performance characteristics of process measurement instrumentation, analyzers, control valves, and VFDs.
Working knowledge of functional safety standards and requirements such as ISO13849. ANSI B11, etc.
Working Knowledge of electrical standards such as NFPA 79, NFPA 70E, NEC, UL508A, etc.
Strong communication skills to professionally interface with internal and external resources.
Strong organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to meet demanding deadlines.
Ability to read, interpret and create electrical schematics. Proficient with CAD.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member to accomplish objectives.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities.
Demonstrated success in managing and leading both long-term programs/projects, as well as address shot-term operational issues.
