The Sr. Engineer for Machine Performance, Simulation, and Application position is recognized as one of the best in the company within a technical specialty. This position will focus on machine performance and controls for the Large Mining Truck product group. Machine platforms to work with will include diesel mechanical and diesel electric applications for legacy machines and electrification of current and future products. You will serve as a consultant and technical expert on projects and assignments that make significant contributions relating to Caterpillar’s core technologies. Product influence expands to vehicle concepts, product line concepts, and process systems concepts. In addition to demonstrating a mastery of engineering concepts, this position will be expected to lead projects and programs to completion.

What you will do:

+ Lead development of new Virtual Product Development (VPD) processes, tools, and technologies for performance simulations and analysis.

+ Establish technical requirements and specifications for new products using VPD simulations and analysis. Engage with internal and external partners to gain acceptance for key requirements and specifications.

+ Develop overall performance acceptance criteria for the product; use the latest VPD and simulation tools to perform concept feasibility analysis to evaluate key components, sub-system, and system technology options and trade-offs, and recommend a prime path.

+ Support machine platform managers with VPD results for decision making; improve current product quality using data and analysis results comparisons.

What Skills you will have:

Technical Excellence: Strong technical leadership skills with extensive experience in the performance and application of hauling machines. Have an extensive understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications.

Process Management: Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques; ability to understand, monitor, update, control, or enhance existing business or work processes.

Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.

Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

Effective Communications: Strong communication, leadership, project management, and business management skills. Direct work with internal process partners, suppliers, customers, and dealers requires the incumbent to demonstrate skill in negotiation, building consensus, and achieving compromise.

Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.

Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

Additional Information:

The primary location for this position is Tucson, AZ, or Decatur, IL.
