PUBLIC RELATIONS REPRESENTATIVE III (Communication Division)

DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING

Number of Vacancies: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

Starting Salary: 71,004.00

This position is open to the public and all current city employees covered under the City’s Collective Bargaining Agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) – BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under general supervision, participates in and oversees the development of communication and public information materials in order to promote departmental programs and services; and performs related duties as required

Essential Duties:

· Conducts research, compiles information, and drafts copy for inclusion into departmental public information materials (i.e. plans, reports, newsletters, presentations)

· Drafts copy for press releases to disseminate information to the public

· Develops designs of information materials (i.e. plans, reports, newsletters, presentations)

· Participates and coordinates attendance of designated personnel at community and public information meetings

· Attends neighborhood forums and performs other community outreach activities to inform the public of programs and services

· Assists in the planning and facilitation of meetings, conferences, and special events

· Prepares marketing collateral for social media purposes (i.e. graphics, captions, images)

· Monitors and contributes to social media activity for the department

· Researches, compiles information for, and responds to Freedom of Information Act requests

· Participates in tracking and reporting all departmental media contacts and coverage

· Assists with front desk coverage and answers phone calls and fields in-person inquiries from the general public

Additional duties may be required for this position

SCHEDULE:

Location: 121 N. Lasalle Street City Hall, 10th Floor

Days: Monday – Friday

Hours : 9:00am – 5:00pm

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, English or a directly related field, plus three years of experience in the preparation and dissemination of public information; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to successfully pass a skills assessment Test, written skills assessment and complete an interview. Test results will be sent out by the Department of Human Resources after Test results have been analyzed and compiled. The candidates that receive a passing score on the skills assessment test will be invited to interview for the position. Candidate(s) receiving a passing score on the test and possess the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral interview, will be selected in seniority/lottery order.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

· Bi-lingual Spanish

· Advanced Proficiency with InDesign, Canva and other related design programs and tools.

· Advanced Proficiency with writing and copy editing.

· Advanced Proficiency with video making.

· Advanced Proficiency with newsletter making.

· Previous work experience in social media marketing.
