Risk Management CPA Licensing team supports our people in managing the risks that arise related to CPA licensing requirements within the US. We work closely with all parts of the organization to identify, manage and monitor risk, providing coordinated advice and assistance.

The opportunity ?

CPA Licensing Compliance is seeking an Associate to support and manage the various requirements surrounding CPA compliance. The Associate will have a deep understanding of the firm’s CPA policy and the compliance framework to support our professionals with obtaining required licensure or renewing timely. This role supports our client serving professionals with questions raised in an effort to assist with compliance as well as grow knowledge of various state or other regulatory requirements. The individual in this role updates leadership and provides ongoing consultations with various teams to ensure a full understanding of our CPA’s licensure history. The Associate will execute compliance programs (with oversight) to mitigate risks to the firm, including supporting the training and knowledge sharing with other team members.

Your key responsibilities

+ Applies knowledge and understanding of firm’s processes, resources and tools to effectively support functional teams and customers

+ Facilitates and strongly drives the process to completion by following up on requests and assisting EY personnel with licensing questions

+ Participate in meetings with area leadership, general counsel’s office (“GCO”) and risk management

+ Understand and apply the firm’s policy requirements and regulatory requirements to respond to EY personnel

+ Performs internal and external research, referencing existing policies and knowledge to assist with review, assessment and resolution of incidents and provides recommendation to meet compliance, including customer inquiry

+ Demonstrates positive attitude by contributing energy and new ideas to team efforts and meetings, including process improvements for continued execution against strategic priorities, enhance efficiency and identify trends

+ Proactively notify appropriate EY individual of, and be alert for, any identified issues with quality, confidentiality or risk

+ Performs duties and responsibilities with limited supervision

+ Solve complex problems (e.g. partnering with professionals to obtain reciprocal/initial license if rejected by State Board)

+ Asks clarifying questions to fully understand customer, peer and leadership expectations, to effectively support the business

+ Provides excellent customer service to internal stakeholders

+ Escalates and partners with the team to resolve concerns, outlining action taken and proposed solution, as applicable

+ Reconciles information obtained from research and communicates findings, parameters and proposes next steps to leadership

+ Documents work processes and findings in appropriate work programs

+ Formulate answers to client questions

+ Use analytical and project management methodology and tools

+ Learn and apply the firm structure, business strategies, and people of the firm

+ Build and leverage a network of contacts within risk management and across the firm

+ Plan and organize own work and keeps others informed of status and activities

+ Produces work of high quality that is timely, accurate, complete and clear

Skills and attributes for success

+ Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and collaboration skills, ability to interface with personnel at all levels directly or in virtual setting, communicate with appropriate frequency

+ Highly skilled attention to detail and self-assurance of quality of work performed or reviewed

+ Will reference existing policies, however, due to frequency of unique situations will need to research issues and through situation specific inquiries, propose solutions to issues.

+ Expected to escalate matters and/or sensitive transactions requiring more experienced individuals to respond or process.

+ Follows established procedures to complete tasks; however, must be able to communicate effectively with clients on various compliance or independence issues

+ Proactive sharing of knowledge and suggestions with colleagues to enhance their professional development

+ Anticipate and proactively respond and assist colleagues with adjusting to change

+ Effective management of conflicting priorities, organization of workflow, and teaming with colleagues to accomplish tasks and balance workloads

+ Develop and demonstrate solid working knowledge of firm structure, service lines, key personnel and organizational policies and procedures

+ Works independently with supervision, however, is responsible for planning and organizing own work and for providing regular status updates

+ Expected to be prepared to interface with EY personnel at all levels and must be able to demonstrate knowledge of area of operations and communicate processes, identifying issues, and providing solutions for mitigating risk

To qualify you must have

+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience

+ 2+ years of relevant professional experience

+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, etc.) and PowerQuery

Ideally, you’ll also have

+ Research skills using internal and external data sources

+ Previous experience with risk management, either through education or employment

What we offer

We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The salary range for this job in most geographic locations in the US is $49,100 to $89,000. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $58,900 to $101,200. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography.
