Overview
Northern Illinois University (NIU) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Director/Retail. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. Under the general supervision of the Associate Athletic Director for Equipment and Brand Management, this position assists with oversight of all aspects of the Athletic Department retail outlets, including locations within the Convocation Center, Recreation, Yordon Center, and any kiosk/remote setups. This position requires days, evening and weekend work hours.

Position Summary
Under the direction of the Associate Athletic Director for Equipment and Brand Management, this position assists with oversight of all aspects of the Athletic Department retail outlets, including locations within the Convocation Center, Recreation, Yordon Center, and any kiosk/remote setups.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Retail Oversight - 35%
Oversight of revenue generation through online retail sales, in-house retail shop(s), and special events including NIU Athletics and Recreation equipment surplus public sales.
Duties include but are not limited to: oversight of daily reading of registers, opening and closing procedures, merchandise displays setup, day-to-day operations of retail location(s), pricing and tagging of merchandise, safety awareness within store location(s), traffic flow, and initiatives to drive sales and profitability through consumer awareness and satisfaction and special promotions/advertising events.
Inventory - 20%
Maintain sales inventory and record keeping for auditing purposes as regulated by both state and university policies and procedures.
Develops and responds to correspondence and drafts policies for retail sections as required.
Supervisory - 10%
Supervise all part-time help assigned to the retail area(s) to include scheduling, payroll review, and training.
Accounting Practices/Budget - 10%
Works closely with Athletic Business Office and the Sr. Associate AD/HR and Finance Administration on proper retail accounting practices, policies, and procedures.
Customer Service/Quality Control - 10%
Oversee customer service, monitoring and addressing any quality issues promptly and implement improvements to prevent recurrence.
Branding - 10%
Working with the Associate AD/Equipment and Brand Management, ensure all measures are in place to uphold the brand's reputation.
Other Related Duties - 5%
Attend departmental meetings as required.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)
Associate degree in any field or concentration including general studies.
Two (2) years (24 months) of experience in a retail environment.
One (1) year (12 months) of supervisory experience in a retail environment.
