The Accounting Specialist is responsible for managing, monitoring, and processing the bank's organizational cash flow and cash position, with an emphasis on wire transfer/ACH activities. This position will also be accountable for preparing, analyzing and executing accounts payable transactions and reporting as requested. This position will work closely with cross-functional managers, processors, loan officers, corresponding banks, such as the Federal Reserve Bank, the finance team, and other internal/external customers.
Monitor and process incoming and outgoing domestic and international wire transfers accurately, timely, and with meticulous attention to detail.
Process accounts payable transactions including vendor invoices, employee expense reports, and other disbursements accurately and in a timely manner.
Record and analyze monthly general ledger entries for bank, holding company and the statutory trust company.
Verify the authenticity of wire transfer and accounts payable requests and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and bank policies.
Monitor and manage correspondent bank cash positions and balances, including the Federal Reserve, US Bank and FHLB.
Communicate effectively with internal and external colleagues and stakeholders, including correspondent banks, on all accounting and cash management related topics
With strong attention to accuracy and timeliness, prepare or assist with the preparation of all financial and Board/Executive reports for management.
Identify, develop, and implement process improvements to streamline and improve the wire and accounts payable processes.
Assist with the preparation of account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Perform other duties as requested and assigned.
Key Competency Requirements

 

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent experience
1-3 years of experience in a related Finance field (banking preferred though not required)
A desire to embrace change, improve processes, and reduce manual efforts
General ledger accounting knowledge including with accounting, reporting and reconciliations
Experience participating and/or leading projects with others
Ability to communicate well both written and orally, including through presentations
Strong organizational, time management skills with a keen attention to detail
Demonstrates strong analytical thinking skills and strong self-directed problem solving skills
Desire to execute responsibilities effectively and in an independent manner
Exhibit a customer focused mindset, being courteous and helpful to others
A desire to operate in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrates ability to address job related/technical issues and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff
Top notch MS Office Excel, Powerpoint, and Word skills. Use of macros, pivot tables, dashboard / Power BI are additional pluses
