This is a full-time exempt position.

Position Summary:

The Junior Cost Estimator represents ADM and is responsible for supporting the Senior Cost Estimator and the Capex Project Controls Group, aligning on industry standard cost estimation through ADM’s global capital project management process (“FEL”).

This individual will play a critical role in the planning and budgeting phases of industrial capital projects, interacting with project teams, and providing vital information for decision-making and project management. Additionally, they will also evaluate project actuals against the approved budget plan after projects are executed and closed.

The Junior Cost Estimator will also promote and provide guidance for the capex cost estimating process, and be able to educate and coach other capital project stakeholders around estimating best practices, cost KPIs, capturing historical cost data & information, and other pertinent information to focus on continuous improvement for the project controls organization.

Essential Job Functions:

+ Data Collection and Analysis: Gather and analyze data on labor, materials, equipment, and contractor costs to assist in preparation of cost estimates; Maintains estimating databases and integrate these databases with the enterprise project controls tools

+ Documentation: Maintain accurate records of estimates, including assumptions, methodologies, source data and estimate basis

+ Collaboration: Work closely with senior cost estimator, project managers, engineers, and other project stakeholders to ensure estimates and forecasts align with project requirements and timelines

+ Market research: Conduct research on market conditions, pricing trends, and new materials or methods that could affect costs

+ Software utilization: Use estimating software and tools to develop cost estimates and maintain cost databases

+ Review and Validation: Participate in reviews and validation of cost estimates, identifying any discrepancies or areas for improvement while defending cost estimating process fundamentals

+ Reporting: Prepare and present cost estimate reports to senior estimators, project teams, and Project Controls leadership

+ Initiate Project Controls Request for approval; Process and Schedule PCO Review Request

+ Validate FEL project cost estimates greater than $5 million from global perspective

+ Validate appropriate change risk allowances, risk reserves, and owner’s contingency values

+ Validate project estimate and project scope/schedule are in alignment to avoid incomplete estimates

+ Builds educational vehicles and systems to enhance organizational estimating capability, accuracy, capturing historical cost data, and consistency

+ Prepare preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates and detail estimates for projects of varying size and complexity, including materials price lists, labor costs and equipment

+ Research prior estimating data (purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc.) and compile summary reports to develop guidelines and precedents for future estimates

+ Have a working knowledge of material unit costs, systems square foot costs, and total building square foot costs

+ Keep current on changes and trends in methods of construction and materials, construction costs, wage rates, fringes and working rules

+ Participate in Project progress meetings and client presentations as required

+ Maintain interest in pursuing certification in cost estimating or related fields (e.g., AACE International’s Certified Cost Technician) is advantageous

Working Conditions:

+ The scope of this position will encompass predominantly office work in an office environment

Required Qualifications:

+ Experience with cost estimating in a related environment

+ Experience using verbal and written communications skills effectively, including the ability to interact effectively with customers and vendors

+ Previous experience demonstrated project cost and resource estimating

+ High-level familiarity with accounting and finance processes

+ Ability to meet deadlines and work under stress

+ Exposure and general understanding of risk management tools and techniques

+ Familiarity with enterprise project controls tools

+ Proficiency with relevant computer applications

+ Experience working in cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Bachelor of Science degree (or higher) in Construction Management, Engineering, or a similar technical discipline, OR equivalent professional experience

+ Project management courses and certifications

+ Member AACE, ASPE, or PMI
