Position: RN
Location: Niles, IL and Chicago, IL
Part-time (per diem)
Hours: Mon-Friday 07:00am-3:30pm; 7:30am-4pm;9am-5:30pm; or 0700am-5:30pm; occasional weekends (Sat/Sun 7:30a-12:00p)
Required Travel: Possible travel to offsite location

What you will need:
RN requires at least one year of experience as a staff nurse.
Nurses with at least one year of professional infusion experience preferred.
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
Demonstrates mastery of nursing skills.
Communicates effectively and is able to guide and supervise nursing personnel.
Has an automobile to transport self to and from an off-site location.
Current Illinois Nursing licensure
American Heart Association CPR Certification
Current Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Card preferred
ACLS, PALS, NRP may be required within six months depending on the unit requirements

General Summary:

As an experienced practitioner, is accountable for providing high quality, individualized, goal directed nursing care for all levels of Infusion Therapy patients and their families in accordance with the mission, vision and philosophy of the Division of Nursing. This clinical nurse will exemplify the role of caring for patients receiving standard injection therapy, infusion therapy and for those on research protocols. This nurse will be proficient in the procedures and interventions for administering injectable medications and infusion therapy, while maintaining the safety precautions necessary when handling these agents. There is a requirement to travel to an additional infusion site when needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions
Demonstrates a commitment to the mission of Swedish Hospital and exhibits a service orientation and adheres to all responsibilities and standards of the hospital while working within a comprehensive, multidisciplinary environment
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the delivery of nursing care to the infusion center patient.
Proficient in vascular access care, maintenance and management.
Safely prepares mixes, handles, administers and disposes of injectables and infused agents according to policy.
Performs designated nursing and other patient care activities according to established nursing policies and procedures.
Attains knowledge and competency reflective of current standards of practice.
Interacts and contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues.
Integrates ethical provisions in all areas of nursing practice.
Integrates research findings into nursing practice and collaborates with potential research opportunities
Systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.
Communicates information to others as appropriate to maintain effective patient flow.
Collaborates closely with the charge nurse and APN
Recognizes and adjusts to situations that vary from the norm.
Promotes safety measures to prevent patient and staff injuries.
Guides and supervises staff in the provision of patient care.
Enhances own professional growth and development.
Maintains a safe therapeutic working environment and recognizes need for action in emergency situations.
Documentation is thoroughly and timely completed

Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

PATIENT CARE/AGE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Staff Nurses working in specialty areas possess a knowledge of procedures specific to that patient population including age specific needs. RNs are encouraged and supported to obtain specialty certification.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
Committee membership and participation as needed.

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS
Patients and their families and significant others, Division of Nursing Staff, Medical Staff, and other hospital personnel.

ACCESS TO PROTECTED HEALTH INFORMATION
Computer system access for the Nursing Division is assigned based on criteria and on the minimum necessary as described in this job description. Approval for level of access is given by the system administrator (for Nursing Division, this is Nursing Informatics) or the department that has ownership of system/module.

ENVIRONMENT
May be in an upright position and moving about most of the working time.
May lift heavy objects.
Use of computer.
Potential for exposure to chemotherapy, biotherapy, hormones, chemicals, airborne diseases, blood and bodily fluids.
May need to travel from location to location when needed.
Risk of injury by violent patient.
