Job Description

Director, Risk Advisory at Marathon Capital, LLC:

 Strategize, analyze, plan, and service a portfolio of accounts in the renewable energy industry, including developing insurance and risk advisory solutions and offerings. Responsible for all aspects of the insurance cycle, from conceptual risk identification with clients to placement of risks to insurers. Duties include:

  1. Identify and analyze risks and conduct due diligence to ensure thorough understanding of the clients’ strategic business priorities, risk strategies, and risk management needs to provide insurance solutions that successfully serve clients;
  2. Utilize industry knowledge of global insurance marketplace and financial analysis to develop customized insurance solutions to meet client needs;
  3. Execute complex insurance transactions on behalf of company’s renewable energy sector clients involving mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, defense, and restructuring;
  4. Design risk management strategies and insurance solutions to back stop private placements of equity and debt, with a special focus on renewable energy project opportunities involving utility scale infrastructure;
  5. Develop and maintain strategic relationships with insurers and clients at senior levels;
  6. Oversee the production of client deliverables and delivery of final insurance solutions to clients;
  7. Maintain an awareness of all large and potentially complicated claim related matters with outside counsel/law firms engaged to manage claims in the negotiation of equitable claim settlements on behalf of clients;
  8. Serve as a thought leader within the company and maintain knowledge of the changing risk exposures and insurance market conditions;
  9. Guide, train, and mentor associates, analysts, and support staff to support Marathon Capital’s work in developing bespoke insurance solutions, structured specifically to support investment transactions on behalf of renewable energy sector clients;
  10. Serve as the designated responsible person for Marathon’s insurance brokerage license business entity as well as a Member of the Board for Marathon’s Captive insurance vehicle;
  11. Develop and maintain working relationships with regulators in the insurance and captive insurance industries.

Minimum Requirements:  

A Master of Business Administration, a Master’s degree in Finance, or foreign equivalent followed by 3 years of experience in a financial or financial risk manager-related occupation.

Experience must include the following, which may have been gained concurrently:

  • 3 years of experience with insurance concepts and principles at a senior managerial level, including insurance coverage, reinsurance, captive management, and renewable energy insurance solutions;
  • 3 years of experience developing innovative insurance solutions at a senior managerial level and working with insurers and insurance coverage attorneys, at a senior managerial level, on insurance product development;
  • 3 years of experience managing a captive insurance vehicle, working with actuaries to analyze actuarial data and benchmarking data, at a senior managerial level;
  • 3 years of experience negotiating, at a senior managerial level, with strategic insurance carriers and with senior underwriting executives at insurance companies globally;
  • 3 years of experience designing and structuring insurance programs at a senior managerial level;
  • 3 years of experience structuring complex insurance placement transactions at a senior managerial level;
  • 3 years of experience leading, training, and mentoring junior brokers in Financial Risk at a senior managerial level.
