Job Description

AECOM/Hunt has an opportunity for a Senior Manager OR Director of Risk Management. This is a remote position and can be located in, but not limited to, Denver, CO, Chicago, IL, Indianapolis, IN or Nashville, TN.

The Risk Management Director in the construction industry is responsible for overseeing and implementing risk management strategies and policies to minimize the potential risks associated with construction projects. This role involves identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. The Risk Management Director works closely with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to develop risk management plans, conduct risk assessments, and monitor the effectiveness of risk control measures.

Key Responsibilities

1. Risk Identification and Assessment

2. Identify potential risks related to construction projects, including financial, safety, regulatory, environmental, and operational risks.

3. Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to evaluate the likelihood and impact of identified risks.

4. Develop risk registers and maintain up-to-date records of potential risks.

5. Risk Mitigation and Control

6. Develop and implement risk management plans and strategies to mitigate identified risks.

7. Collaborate with project managers and contractors to integrate risk management practices into project plans and schedules.

8. Monitor the effectiveness of risk mitigation measures and adjust strategies as needed.

9. Policy and Procedure Development

10. Establish and maintain risk management policies, procedures, and guidelines in line with industry standards and best practices.

11. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and legal requirements related to risk management in construction.

12. Training and Education

13. Provide training and education to project teams and stakeholders on risk management processes and best practices.

14. Foster a culture of risk awareness and proactive risk management within the organization.

15. Monitoring and Reporting

16. Continuously monitor project activities and conditions to identify emerging risks and respond promptly.

17. Prepare and present regular risk management reports to senior management, highlighting key risks, mitigation efforts, and risk status.

18. Incident Management

19. Lead investigations and root cause analysis for any incidents or near-misses on construction sites.

20. Develop and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence and improve overall safety and risk management practices.

21. Stakeholder Communication

22. Serve as the primary point of contact for all risk management-related matters.

23. Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders regarding risk management activities and outcomes.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirement-Senior Manager:

+ BA/BS Construction Management, Engineering, Risk or related curriculum and 10 years of relevant experience in construction risk management, including 2 years of leadership or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Minimum Requirement-Director:

+ BA/BS Construction Management, Engineering, Risk or related curriculum and 12 years of relevant experience in construction risk management, including 4 years of leadership or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Requirements:

+ A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CRM, ARM, PMP) is preferred.

+ Experience in construction risk management.

+ Prior experience from a large general contractor.

+ Extensive knowledge or risk management administration, processes, protocols.

+ Ability to identify, assess and manage risk associated with construction projects to ensure successful completion of projects.

+ Experience in developing and implementing risk management strategies that mitigate potential risks and liabilities.

+ Insurance broker’s license preferred.

+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

+ Professional certifications in risk management preferred.

+ In-depth understanding of construction processes, risk management principles, and relevant regulations and standards.

+ Please note that this role can be based in various cities in the United States and compensation data will vary in each location, including higher or lower than the stated range. ?

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $122,820.39 – $227,217.73.
