Job Summary:

Caterpillar’s Tracked Products Engineering Electrical team is currently seeking a candidate to serve as an Electrical Value Chain Specialist. The Electrical Value Chain Specialist will work with the design teams that have responsibility for the electrical content on Large Track Type Tractors (Dozers), Surface Rock Drills, Hydraulic Mining Shovels, Electric Rope Shovels, and Draglines. The team supports the Caterpillar factories and suppliers for these product lines worldwide. The Electrical Value Chain Specialist will work with the designers, manufacturing, and suppliers in all stages of the value chain with a focus on the electrical components and installation content including harnessing, cabling and component mounting looking across the above product lines. The focus will be on safety improvements, cost optimization and preventing quality defects through preventative actions and walking back escaped defects to find root cause and corrective action for both broken products and processes. In addition, this individual will also connect the different product lines and facilities to drive common processes and leverage lessons learned regarding electrical content. The Electrical Value Chain Specialist will need to be an accountable, customer driven, self-starter. The role will require someone with strong teamwork, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills to interact with the engineering teams, purchasing teams, manufacturing teams, and suppliers in a values-based manner. What you will do:

+ Influence new designs and design changes to align with electrical assembly best practices, guides and standards and supplier capabilities in team working sessions, design reviews, manufacturing reviews, and 1 on 1 coaching.

+ Provides direction and guidance to other manufacturing personnel (internal and external) in a continuous effort to improve manufacturing safety, quality, and productivity.

+ Develop & implement standard work for Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Built in Quality (BIQ) for the Tracked Products Engineering Electrical team.

+ Represent the team in BIQ sorts and lead investigations to walk issues back through the value chain to root cause and provide recommendations for inspection plans, inspection methods, and BIQ gates.

+ Help identify, diagnose, and implement solutions to high defect and high rework areas throughout the value chain.

+ Drive Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) for failure investigations related to electrical designs.

+ Champion APQP to ensure Engineering, Purchasing, and Manufacturing both at Caterpillar and suppliers are involved in the approval process so that sound decisions are made which improve manufacturing processes, quality, and product cost.

+ Lead the execution of the engineering steps of APQP in collaboration with and the suppliers for the team’s parts.

+ Coordinate standard work across machine platforms for electrical component families in areas including but not limited to packaging, shipping, storage, inventory management and end of line test.

+ Work with domestic and foreign suppliers and manufacturing facilities

Degree Requirement:

Engineering Degree or equivalent experience desired

Root Cause Analysis (RCA) : Knowledge of the concepts, principles and techniques of root cause analysis (RCA); ability to use a structured approach to identify the causes of undesirable consequences in a manufacturing environment and the changes needed to prevent recurrences.

- Investigates a broad range of problems, determines causes, and finds resolutions.
