Job Description

AVAILABLE POSITION**

Applications are now being taken in the Human Resources Office for the following position:

HUMANE HANDLING MANAGER

HOURS:

+ Flexible as required/Responsible for all 3 shifts

+ Must work all three shifts as needed and rotating, checking on welfare / training personnel/USDA issues.

+ Note: Midshift hours are required.

+ Saturdays are mandatory if plant is operating.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

+ Verify That all humane handling SOP’s are being carried out, including scheduling, unloading, training, handling of non-ambulatory animals, driving and stunning.

+ Monitor, audit and document each of these activities.

+ Collect information on sources of high stress animals in order to provide feedback for improvement by the supplying producers.

+ Insure that livestock truck drivers are certified in TQA training, provide training as required and maintain training records.

+ Assist with contingency planning and providing proper care for animals in event of major plant delays.

+ Serve as facility liaison for USDA-FSIS in matters related to humane handling.

+ Correlate with QA and Product Management as to impact of animals handling on meat quality.

+ Insure that animals are being properly transported by monitoring equipment and seasonal preparation, working with Procurement to provide timely notification to producers.

+ Monitor animals for visible defects which may impact on yields or quality, providing information to Procurement for feedback to producers.

+ Attends meetings as required.

+ Performs various other tasks as needed.

+ 75 of taskand verification must be performed in barns. 25 will require paperwork and computer work, training, etc.

+ Verify that all humane handling SOPs are being carried out, including scheduling,

QUALIFICATIONS:

+ Related four year degree preferred.

+ Knowledge of our industry beneficial

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills

+ Must be able to demonstrate effective people skills

+ Computer skills and knowledge of basic office software necessary

+ Trustworthy – Will be handling confidential material

+ Good attendance record (Less than 3 points)

+ Self Starter

+ Team Player

+ Be able to communicate written and verbally in English
