Program and Engagement Coordinator, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)

The University of Illinois is accepting applications for a Program and Engagement Coordinator at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). OLLI at Illinois is an inclusive community that offers affordable, accessible, high-quality educational programs designed for people fifty or older connected to East Central Illinois or the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign with the goal of enriching members' lives by heightening intellectual engagement and stimulating curiosity. This position coordinates OLLI programs and engagement initiatives for older adults involving members, instructors, lecturers, and community partners. The individual will assist the OLLI director in strategic planning and in the development and implementation of OLLI at Illinois' lifelong learning programs as well as other duties, as necessary, for the smooth operation of OLLI.

Duties & Responsibilities

Engagement with members
  • Engage extensively with members to foster sense of community and determine member interests and needs.
  • Oversee volunteer committees.
  • Coordinate OLLI's study group program.
  • Organize OLLI events/trips.
  • Compose extensive internal written communications, including course, study group, lecture, and event descriptions, website content, weekly emails to members.
  • Assist OLLI director in assessing and implementing membership and enrollment goals, including diversity and accessibility goals, maintenance, and retention.
Engagement with university and community
  • Assist director in establishing and maintaining community partners for educational programming (courses, lectures).
  • Increase and maintain OLLI's presence on social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and maintain selected pages of OLLI's website.
  • Assist director in developing and overseeing marketing strategy to increase membership and OLLI's community presence.
  • Compose extensive external written communications, including website content, promotional materials, and other publications and communications as needed.
Engagement with instructors and lecturers
  • Provide basic training to instructors to use equipment in classrooms.
  • Assist instructors, study group facilitators, and lecturers with course delivery questions, especially those involving classroom or online presentation set-up and delivery.
  • Coordinate OLLI speaker programs.
Position Qualifications

Required-
  • Bachelor's degree
  • A total of two (2) years (24months) in education, training and/or work experience in program coordination, service or other industry.
Preferred-
  • Master's degree, preferably in social work, communications, or liberal arts.
  • Demonstrated experience working and/or interacting with diverse populations.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Public speaking experience.
Successful candidates will have the following-
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Proficiency with standard computer programs and instructional technology and ability to learn new software programs.
  • Ability to work well and efficiently with others in OLLI's 3-person staff
  • Composure and patience to work with members, volunteers, faculty and community experts, and other constituents.
  • Ability to perform under constraints to maintain confidence in appropriate matters.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and duties to meet specific deadlines.
  • Ability to work occasional evening or weekend hours.
  • Ability to work independently and anticipate the needs of the director, members, and university and community experts and partners.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical staff, volunteers, and instructors.
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. Minimum salary for this position is $60,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements. Work authorization sponsorship is not available for this position.
