Overview
Northern Illinois University (NIU) is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University-Higher Research Activity in DeKalb, IL. The Nursing program is part of the interdisciplinary College of Health and Human Sciences and offers BS, MS, and DNP degrees in Nursing. All programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. This is a full-time, nine-month, promotable, non-tenure track Clinical Assistant Professor Nursing Faculty position. The faculty member is responsible for educating students in direct patient care and providing classroom instruction to undergraduate and graduate nursing students.
Position Summary
The Clinical Assistant Professor in Nursing will report to the Chair of the NIU School of Nursing. Primary responsibilities will be at the graduate and undergraduate level, translating their clinical expertise and the broader evidence into clinical/internship experiences and didactic courses. There is also an expectation of service to the department, college, university and/or professional community. The Clinical Assistant Professor will teach at least 50% in the clinical/internship setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Design and implement clinical/internship training and didactic courses to nursing students in person and online with a student success mindset.
Contribute positively to committee service within the university (i.e., program, department, college, and university levels) and profession.
Maintaining clinical expertise.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Academic or practice nursing doctorate.
Applicants who are dissertation candidates (ABD) or Doctor of Nursing Practice candidates will be considered. A contract is contingent on completion of a doctorate degree.
Experience in clinical practice within past five years.
Active unrestricted advanced practice registered nurse license in the state of Illinois.
Additional Requirements
Ability to educate nursing students in clinical, laboratory, and classroom settings.
Demonstrated knowledge in evidence-based practice.
Ability and willingness to contribute to meeting the program's clinical training and didactic instructional needs.
Understanding of and experience with curriculum content, design, and evaluation.
Employing strategies to promote and support professional development.
Strong oral, written, visual, and electronic communication skills.
Effective interpersonal and conflict management skills.
Ability to communicate effectively and interact in a positive manner with diverse faculty, staff, patients, students, and clinicians, as well as with people of varying economic and cultural backgrounds.
Contribute to promoting a collegial environment in which faculty support each other and their students.
The candidate must follow NIU's immunization policies.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior teaching experience, especially supervising clinical education and teaching graduate students.
Experience providing care to diverse populations.
Preference will be given to candidates with a record of professional service, research, and experience developing grants for programming.
