Wieland is hiring an Over-the-Road Truck Driver. The Over-the-Road Truck Driver will be responsible for supporting Wieland Recycling in the transporting of a broad range of materials including metals, alloys, and electronic scrap across the country. This role is based out of Granite City, IL.
Starting Pay: $71,000 +

 


Responsibilities

 

Over-the-Road Truck Driver Responsibilities:

Transport goods in a timely manner, maintain delivery schedules and effective communication with dispatchers.
Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and functionality. Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance. Report defects, accidents, or violations.
Safely operate a tractor-trailer combination on long-haul routes while adhering to all traffic laws and DOT/FMCSA regulations along with company policies and procedures.
Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions.
Collect and verify delivery instructions.
Ability to ensure trailers are locked out and chocked before loading/unloading.
Maintains accurate records of driving activities, including hours of service, vehicle inspections, and fuel purchases when necessary. Maintain driver log according to DOT regulations.
Work in a timely, safe, and responsible manner to meet customer or company requirements.
Commitment to customer service expectations and delivering on time, every time.
Over-the-Road Truck Driver Qualifications:

Must be at least 22 years old, have a minimum of 5 years of experience and possess a valid Class A CDL license.
Clean driving record. Not Cited for a D.O.T. defined accident in the previous three years.
Ability to pass the DOT physical and drug screen. Ability to drive at night.
Experience running a Logbook or Elogs. Document and log work/rest periods and miles spent driving. Comply with truck driving rules, and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking, and break periods) along with company policies and procedures. Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations.
Have knowledge of and compliance with company policy and all federal, state, local laws and regulations governing the operation of company equipment.
Good communication skills; conveys information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; adjusts communication to meet the needs of the audience.
Ability to read and understand documents such as BOL's, Freight logs and intermodal trans documents, safety rules, operating and procedure manuals.
Adapts to change quickly and easily and performs effectively during times of change; demonstrates the ability to multi-task and manages competing priorities effectively. Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions, etc.)
Strong work ethic with a willingness to go the extra mile.

Be a safety champion by promoting a safe and productive workplace through your own actions, including the proper use of PPE, safe operation of powered equipment and safe lifting techniques as determined by the role.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move frequently, stand, walk, and sit. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50lbs and ability to open containers.
