Job Description
Horace Mann Service Corporation seeks a Software Engineer III for Springfield, IL, with option to telecommute, work from anywhere within the U.S.
Responsibilities:
The Systems Engineer will be responsible for development lifecycle of software applications and other business process optimization projects, maintaining software applications, including upgrades, enhancements, and patches. Diagnose and resolve system problems. Ensure application performance, reliability, and quality. Work closely with the Development Operations team to drive system stability through CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment) implementations. Help development managers with training plans needed for their staff. Mentor a group of software engineers. Drive innovation through research of new technology, existing technology, and process improvement. Work on POCs (Proof of Concept) to help determine best path forward with growth and run initiatives. Plan and execute the application portfolio management strategy. Work across departmental lines to improve Horace Mann’s software development capabilities. Create and maintain Enterprise “Packages” and keep them updated as environment changes. Provide consultation as the team’s technical and system subject matter expert on several business systems. Responsible for application analysis, tuning and measurement to ensure appropriate performance, reliability, and quality SLAs (Service Level Agreements). Collaborate with the user community to design, develop and implement technology solutions across multiple business functions; lead other software engineers. Perform additional software engineer duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and five years’ progressive experience which must include the following, concurrently:
- Experience in analysis, developing and writing code, and
- Three years’ experience working with medium to complex assignments and structures.
