Overview
Northern Illinois University (NIU) is accepting applications for the position of Marketing Associate for the Convocation Center. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits.
Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Marketing for the Convocation Center, this position will collaborate with essential athletics staff in the promotion of events for the Convocation Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Development - 35%
Provides leadership for the development of new programs and events along with assisting in the maintenance of existing programs and events.
Responsible for implementing program priorities, setting goals, and objectives involved in the process of program coordination.
Sets and interprets operating policies and processes for the department, reviews, initiates programs and operations for new and existing programs.


Social Media - 25%
Plan and monitor the ongoing social media presence for NIU Convocation Center accounts (Facebook, Instagram) and creation of new social media accounts (Twitter, SnapChat and TikTok).
Assists in forming strategies to build lasting digital marketing connections with consumers through social media and compelling content creation.

Promotional Materials - 15%
Creation and distribution of promotional materials created in house for any/all events encompassing the grounds of the NIU Convocation Center.

Website - 10%
Maintain and update NIU Convocation Center website for all internal programs, rentals, and special events.

Data Analysis - 5%
Provides analysis, data, reports, and other information to supervisor; assists with grants, sales, or other related funding sources.

Liaison - 5%
Act as a point of contact with campus, agency and university departments and represent the senior administrator on committees as directed.

Resource Management - 5%
Management of resources, determination and supervision of staff functions and events.
Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, or a closely related field.
One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Brand Management, or a related professional area.

Note: Master's degree in area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for (1) year (12 months) of work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) (Civil Service)
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Knowledge of recruitment practices.
Knowledge of social media analytics, social media publishing tools, web analytics, and tracking technologies.
Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
Knowledge of media production, including social media platforms and efficiency of use, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, presentation software, spreadsheet software, video creation and editing software, web page creation and editing software, and analytical or scientific software.
Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems.
Skill in producing live social media coverage.
Skill in verbal and written communication.
Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
