POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision performs all duties related with the Food Service Department, except preparing hot food items.  Works closely with all other Food Service employees.  Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions. Duties may vary to meet the requirements of the Food Service Department activities.

Position Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for handling, preparing, and serving food in accordance with the standard sanitary operating procedure, and comply with the HACCP policy.
Meals must be palatable and appetizing in appearance using garnish.  Also the appearance of the tray is an important factor.
Meet meal schedules for patients, employees, and special functions as per policy.
Following recipes is of utmost importance when working with different diets that require special attention regarding ingredients and portion control.
Perform all duties listed on job procedure – Food Service Aide 2 or 3, or PM 2 – including any additional tasks that may be requested by the manager or the cook.
Assure that work surfaces are cleaned and sanitized.  The assigned monthly cleaning may be done any time during the month or as needed.
The replenishment of all working supplies within the Food Service Department is the responsibility of all Food Service employees.  Always remember FI FO (First in, First Out).
Review the checklist daily, posted on the bulletin board in the Food Service Department and follow instructions.
Maintains confidentiality as per hospital policy.
Maintains mandatory education requirements based on JCAHO, IDPH, and OSHA standards.
Courteously answers the telephone and follows through appropriately.
Maintain required training and/or education per hospital guidelines.
Follow and maintain all lawful safety, health requirements and regulations, and follow protocols for required protective equipment for peers, patients and community.
Promptly report safety issues such hazardous conditions, job-related injury or illness, and seek guidance or treatment.
Adheres to all professional standards, policies and procedures, federal/state/local requirements and regulatory organizations.
Maintains strict confidentiality of patient and records.
Portrays a professional and positive attitude for peers, patients and community.
Other duties as assigned
Education
Preferred Level: High School Diploma or GED. Any equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
Previous Food Service experience desirable.
Must be able to read, write and speak English.
Must have general knowledge of computer use for e-mail and testing.
Experience
Knowledge of food preparation and operations of Food Service equipment is desirable.
A working knowledge of special and restricted diets will be helpful in assuring the proper operation of the Food Service Department.
The ability to communicate effectively with other personnel.
Work Environment
The ideal candidate must be able to work and complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Hazards are typical of institutional kitchens (hot cooking surfaces, sharp objects, electrical equipment, and extreme temperatures are frequently encountered).
On occasion, lift up to 50 pounds of miscellaneous food items.
Requires a great deal of walking, standing, and bending to floor level approximately 80% of the time while on duty.
Must be able to reach shelves at least 6 feet high, reach work areas of 4 feet wide, and work on work surfaces 3 feet high.
