Our Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution?of?Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement?and the?design and?manufacture?of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

The Director, Transportation is responsible for managing network flows from suppliers to factories and Distribution Center’s as well as from Distribution Center’s to dealers. Key activities include, but are not limited to, complete management of the regional transportation network including the GTOC (Ground Transportation Operations Center), leadership and vision for overall strategy and linkage to business unit OPACC goals, accountable for managing agreed upon KPI’s to ensure network cost and velocity effectiveness, establish work plan and priorities for team members and service providers, collaborate with internal customers and global peers on freight cost and velocity performance, and communicate overall program effectiveness.

What You Will Do:

+ Best Team:

+ Establish team goals, align, and implement overall transport strategy, make linkage to customer OPACC goals, and communicate progress.

+ Develop and mentor team members to build deep expertise and recruit talent.

+ Responsible for performance management evaluations and creating an accountable work culture.

+ Primary Operational:

+ Ensure operational effectiveness for network performance and drive defects out of the process by demonstrating lean leadership.

+ Work with logistics procurement to ensure network capacity and cost targets are met.

+ Interface with supply chain teams at facilities and regional dealers to manage end-to-end transport network results.

+ Continuous Improvement:

+ Build consensus among stakeholder plants, Distribution Centers, and dealers to drive improvement and additional OPACC opportunities.

+ In alignment with LIS (Logistics Information Systems) define and drive system requirements to match physical flow to financial and data flow to enable analytics and dashboard performance management.

+ Coach and champion lean leadership to reduce complexities and effort per transaction.

+ Financial Management:

+ Responsible for annual budget creation and management as well as building consensus with customers and leadership team on funding strategic initiatives.

+ Management of the operation within the agreed upon budget and financial forecasting through rolling business management process.

+ Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.

+ Explains strategies for avoiding, mitigating, and resolving transportation capacity problems.

+ Logistics Management: Knowledge of the processes, tools and operational considerations for effective and efficient movement of goods and materials; ability to understand, predict and control the movement of goods, materials and supplies.

+ Develops and analyzes logistics plans that affect production, distribution, and inventory.

+ Manages logistics processes through process improvement, prioritization, and project planning.

+ Implements and maintains monitoring systems to provide information on shipment status, shipped date, in transit location, estimated arrival date, and actual delivery date.

+ Works with historical, legislative, and practical issues associated with domestic freight.

+ Participates in contract negotiations and interfaces with selected carriers necessary to maintain expected levels of service.

+ Consults on all major logistics processes, their interactions, and operational requirements.
