Job Description
New Sound Transport seeks a CDL driver to drive a tractor-trailer combination or a truck with a capacity of at least 26,001 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). Specific duties include: following all regulations; drive year-round, including winter months; drive all routes assigned by the employer. Driving as directed by employer. Driving routes regardless of weather or difficulty, including California, downtown LA, Nashville, Chicago Loop, North Dakota, Wyoming, Alaska, US Highway 550 in Colorado, US Highway 2 in Montana, South Carolina, US 24 including from Fort Wayne to Toledo, Nebraska I-80, and all other roads in the US where semitrucks may be driven legally; maintaining logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status; driving long distance; if required by employer, driving in a team of 2 with the driver assigned by the employer, taking turns driving, subject to Federal Regulations; checking all load related documentation for completeness and accuracy; sleeping in the cabin while truck is driven by team member; driving is continuous except for mandatory time off mandated by Federal Regulations; driving trucks and use equipment provided by employer; using forklift to assist with unloading when directed by employer; helping load and unload; restocking/rearranging load if improperly loaded by the shipper; securing cargo in trailer; properly balancing and arranging cargo within trailer; containing and balancing loads in accordance with regulations; when instructed by employer: driving step deck, flat bed, lowboy trailer, dry van, RGN (Removable Gooseneck Trailers), reefer and refrigerated unit truck; driving oversized load when directed by employer; inspecting, identifying issues and repairing mechanical issues which can be repaired by a driver without using a mechanic shop, such as lights, filters, air lines, changing batteries, and checking electric lines; being responsible for scheduling repairs and maintenance with approved mechanic shops. 100% Domestic Travel Required. Must have Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
