Summary The Nurse Manager of Patient Flow and Resource Pool functions as a clinical expert and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. The NM is responsible for the Central Nursing Staffing Office (CNSO), Resource Pool and Patient Flow areas to include (Bed Flow Coordinators, Transfer Office Coordinators, and Traveling Veteran Coordinator) and the Resource Pool. Responsibilities VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards The NM primary responsibilities include the day-to-day operations of the CNSO in the support of the CNSO frontline clinical staff and Patient Flow area. The NM is the designated first-line supervisory authority responsible and accountable for the 24/7 operation of their assigned area units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed and aligned is under the Chief Nurse, Operations, The NM collaborates and communicates with all members of the healthcare team and provides guidance to staff when necessary. The NM is involved in frontline staff in education, competency, coaching/mentoring, professional development, and other supportive roles such as working alongside staff as needed. Engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. NM adheres to ethical principles in decision making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels. Equips staff with tools to promote a culture of competent care and accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. Cultivates alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement & emotional intelligence. The NM is to promote optimal, safe patient care while ensuring appropriate patient flow and responsible resource management. Requirements of the NM role is the necessary skills to identify and coordinate discipline-specific education, and to assist in providing oversight in the areas of Human Resources under the direction of the chief nurse. This includes assisting in the management, supervision & evaluation of care delivered by nursing and other allied health care staff as well as providing direct patient care, supporting staff needs and promoting a just culture. The NM is directly involved in the hiring process, time and leave functions as well as acting as “resource” to clinical staff regarding competencies and other clinical and administrative activities of the CNSO. The NM contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care. Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards, Directives, policies, standard operating procedures (SOP)and aligning nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution. Promotes an inclusive workplace valuing diversity to achieve the organizations vision and mission. Provides peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals. Contributes professional nursing perspective in discussions with the interdisciplinary team. Partners with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes. Supports colleagues through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care. Shares educational findings, experiences & ideas with peers. Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care. Participates in activities and strategies to sustain an evidence-based-practice culture. Communicates and collaborates as an effective leader of the inter-professional team, at the expert level, with improved evidence-base and/or data-driven outcomes for the immediate practice setting. 1. Work Schedule: 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday thru Friday This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master’s level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor’s level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level
