Position Highlights:
Endoscopy Technician
Location: Swedish Hospital - Chicago, IL
Full Time, 40 hours/week
Monday - Friday
7:00am to 4:30pm
Willing to train on the job

JOB SUMMARY

Assists with providing nursing care to patients undergoing procedures in the Outpatient Surgery Department. Performs processing of instruments and equipment in OPS to assure prompt and safe re-use.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

* Demonstrates a commitment to the mission of Swedish Covenant Hospital and  demonstrates a service orientation and adheres to all responsibilities and standards of the hospital.

1. Prepares procedure rooms and equipment for outpatient surgery procedures. Including transporting ravel carts to the Radiology Department or patient's room for procedure.

2. Directly assists the nurse/physician during outpatient surgical/Endoscopy procedures, which could require wearing a lead apron.

3. Reprocesses all unit instrumentation.

4. Ensures good operation order of instrumentation and equipment.

5. Takes call.

6. Checks and maintains outpatient surgery supplies.

7. Cleans procedure rooms and storage areas.

8. Assists with pre-procedure monitoring and preparation.

9. Assists with post-procedure monitoring and patient care needs.

10. Handles specimens obtained and processes according to policy.

11. Transports patients.

12. Participates in unit-based and hospital wide inservice programs; and staff meetings.

13. Assists with orientation of new staff.

Other Functions

1. Maintains a safe environment.

2. Assists with office duties.

3. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

PATIENT CARE/AGE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Patients vary in age from pediatric to geriatric. Responsible for the needs of patients of all ages.

QUALIFICATION/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

High school graduate or equivalent Must satisfactorily complete a planned orientation program at Swedish Covenant Hospital Good communication skills Ability to interact effectively with others Ability to observe and report accurately Technical ability for handling specialized instrumentation and equipment Ability to handle confidentiality appropriately One year of hospital experience or equivalent experience preferred Certified Nursing Assistant or Surgical Technician preferred
