Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

To perform diagnostic radiology examinations on patients and able to work independently without direct supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs routine radiographic examinations, in general and surgery. Scans all paperwork into PACS. Demonstrates complete patient care. Demonstrates radiation protection. Performs general department maintenance. Demonstrates competence in x-ray technologist skills. Demonstrates proficiency in technical skill relevant to area. Demonstrates competence of sterilization practices. Demonstrates proficient use of equipment Demonstrates proficiency in procedure preparation Maintains established safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Reports infractions to supervisor. Respects patients/introduces self to patient. Examines radiologic film for density and contract, definition, magnification, and distortion. Effectively communicates center, organizational, and industrial information to staff. Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization's overall mission.

Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, center/service safety, and specific job related hazards. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Follows the center exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as the leader of the center team inter- and intracenter to facilitate the center's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Other Functions
Assists in the transporting of acutely ill patients as needed. Assists with clerical duties (phone, scheduling, computer entry, etc.). Helps insure safe and clean working environment for patients and co-workers. Maintains a clean and orderly central processing area (e.g., shelves, counters, equipment). Adheres to sterilization process policies and procedures. Ensures that each item is cleaned according to manufacturer's instructions. Initiates proper inspection of instruments under a microscope for damage and defect. Determines whether each item is in good working condition. Follows all policies and procedures when sorting, arranging, and wrapping individual items into proper trays. Correctly operates sterilizers, ultrasonic washer, and other processing equipment (i.e., positions items correctly in sterilizer, selects proper cycle, seeks assistance when needed

COMPUTER ACCESS LEVEL

Computer system access is assigned based on manager's access level request and on the minimum necessary as described in this description. Approval for level of access is given by the system administrator or manager of the department that has ownership of system/module.

PATIENT CARE/AGE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

"This position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of groups of patients treated, i.e., understand child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging; prior experience with various age groups is preferred".

QUALIFICATION/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

High School graduate or equivalent.
Graduate from an approved school of radiologic technology.
Good communication skills.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

Must be registry eligible (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)
Must have Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety license.
