The Fermilab Particle Physics Division (PPD) seeks a Senior Electrical Power Engineer to support electrical/electronic work at Fermilab. The selected candidate will be expected to work closely with project design engineers and physicists during the design, test, and integration of various electrical and electronic components which are part of large or small detectors. Specifically, the candidate will work with the team to understand AC power distribution requirements including the generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization of electric power, along with the electrical equipment associated with these systems (such as transformers, UPS systems, generators, motors, and power electronics). Candidate will be expected to know and stay current on national safety codes.

You Will:

Work with scientific project/technical managers to develop technical requirements to address specific power needs.

Design AC power distribution infrastructure required to support work done at Fermilab.

Design and work with high voltage power supplies and power conversion circuits.

Develop procurement packages with appropriate drawings, specifications, and work instructions.

Review bid packages from contractors.

Work with local AHJs and code officials to ensure that all work meets local, state, and national codes.

May supervise an engineering/technical team or department, as assigned.

Participate in project planning and reviews.

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

We Are Looking For:

Bachelor in an applicable Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution with 8+ years of engineering experience, or a Master's or PhD in an applicable Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution with 6+ years of engineering experience.

Knowledge/experience with power supply design, and power conversion circuits

Proficiency in the National Electrical Code (NEC) or NFPA 70 required; further training will be considered for candidates if needed.

Proven supervisory, communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.

Readiness for working on challenging projects that may have tight schedules.

Ability to lead a technical team in a research and development environment.

Strong computer skills and competence in performing analytical engineering calculations.

Someone who has the ability to travel and work in experimental areas.

Demonstrate good judgment and ability to independently research and learn
